More Christmas in July, Circa December 1964

Welcome to Disneyland; want a balloon? Makes me think of the old "Laugh-In" joke, "Want a Walnetto?" But I digress. Looks like it's getting late in the day, and there's a swarm of guests at the souvenir stand, looking for just the perfect gift to take home to those poor saps that couldn't make the trek to Disneyland. The balloon seller appears to be anxiously checking his watch; is his shift over yet?

Nothing says Christmas like a big gaudy star on top of the Matterhorn. The way the photo was shot, it almost looks like a big mound of meringue on the Monsanto House of the Future.

How about a parade? If that doesn't make you start counting the days til Christmas, I don't know what will.

A group of lovely young lasses in kilts:

Followed by some cherubic military figures (note the faces of the poor cast members inside, sweating their asses off!). I do believe these figures were the inspiration for "Chucky"!

I can't believe the Spaceman and Spacegirl didn't adorn their outfits with tinsel or at least a few strands of garland. Bah humbug.

I normally get bored with Castle shots, but I love how the ornamentation of the Main Street vehicle provides an interesting frame to this photo.

Thanks to the Skyway, the last two shots are some fine ones, beginning with an overhead of the Tomorrowland Monorail Station:

And wrapping up this set with a view of the Autopia:

Oh, how many times with tired feet have I stood at that gift stand looking for a keepsake.(?) (love that view into the distance....ah sorry).

The capture of the Monorail Station; has so put a tug on my heart and a yearning to visit the park. That picture is so pleasant.

It's a random bunch, but some really neat shots, huh? Now that gift stand has been redesigned so that guests can go inside and actually mingle with the merchandise.

Looking at these made me homesick. Homesick? Ya, for Disneyland my home away from home, LOL.

Great pics!

Love the girls in the kilts!

I don't remember the "walnetto" line from Laugh-In. But it's been a while...

Seeing that first shot brought back memories of a ending a long fun day at the Park, going through the turnstiles, waiting for and riding the tram to our car. Always was an essential part of the experience.

Looks like they were already gearing up for the park's Tencennial Celebration. In that first parade pic, we can see the giant "Disneyland '65" drum with Mickey riding on it in the distance.

Good eye, Chris - I didn't even see that!

Ha, this photo proves the star on the Matterhorn, although not sure about the rotation. I remember it fixed in place.

Dave, these silver suits are hard to modify and still keep them airtight.

What a nice set of photos. Thanks!
