Then & Now: Peace & Quiet at The Castle

It's funny how things happen; recently, I discovered the joys of this quiet bench near the castle. For Dapper Days, I wanted to find a quiet place to sit my tired rump down...unfortunately, it happened to be at a time that the Parade was going down Main Street. Lo and behold, this magical bench appeared to me, completely devoid of anybody sitting on it. Ah...peace at last. I was able to rest my dogs and take a breather while my friends battled through the parade traffic. Next thing I know, this random vintage 1950's shot of the very same area (albeit a different bench) popped up and I had to have it for my collection.

And here I thought I discovered it first. So much for that! See more vintage & current Sleeping Beauty Castle photos on my Sleeping Beauty Castle web page.

For the life of me, I can't place that spot!

Maybe you did discover it first, but after publishing the find here, this family of time travelers saw it, went back in time and then lay claim to it!!! Those time travelers can be tricky, you know!

The old benches look like they were pretty sturdy (cast iron?), wonder why they were replaced. My mom has a cast iron bench that was in my great-grandmother's back yard and it is still in fine shape.

I was wondering the same thing as the Major. Those same benches were there for such a long time.

I wonder if the guy that came up to us and asked about the hidden Mickey in that area ever found it? I saw the book about hidden Mickeys when I was at the park last week, but I didn't even pick it up....I just can't get into those for some reason.

Connie as you face the back of the Castle, it's on the left-hand side.

Major & Tokyo - My theory is that the old benches, though sturdy, had multi-colored paint/coatings that might have been more difficult to maintain than the black ones currently being used.

Tokyo - I am with you on the hidden Mickey crap. Never really got the big deal on that.

That's a good comparison of shots. I thought I knew all the hidden benches and rest spots. I'll look for this in the future.

Still sorry I missed you on Dapper Day, we were all circulating right around that area at the same time, and I didn't know it. I would have loved to say hello and thanks in person.

Hidden Mickeys; i guess they don't bother me too much when subtle, but some of them are a real stretch. I really prefer the kinds of hidden details that Disney used to excel at creating, like the gargoyles in the HM queue that you can't ever see because it's too dark.
