The Shriners at Disneyland, June 1960, Pt. 2
It’s a whole swarm of ’em, and today they’re visiting Holidayland (1957–1961), that exciting picnic ground just outside of Disneyland. These images from June 1960 show the “lost” land about one year before it closed for good.
In this shot, the Grand Poobah is back, and this time he’s ready for his closeup. Notice the postcard rack in back; Major, how many can you identify?
Most likely, this is the wife of the Grand Poobah, proudly showing off her Disneyland paper cup.
Zooming in on the same shot, we can see some of the attraction posters, including the Monorail and Jungle Cruise:
Hope you enjoyed our trip to Holidayland!

These are some great views. I did not know that Holidayland had it's own souvenir stand. They must have made some pretty good money. I also like the drill team and marching band. Shriners are so much fun. Check out his Shriner Bolo tie!
I think the souvenir stand is on the wall maps with Holidayland, but not identified. (There are two stands, one of which is labeled Refreshment Stand, the other one is not labeled at all.)
They sure did put those attraction posters everywhere!
Thanks for the great shots, Dave.
These are AWESOME, some of the best Holidayland images I've ever seen. Matterhorn is right, the Shriners add a crazy element of fun. Just think, ordinarily these guys were as conservative as can be, and there they are in their bright costumes...
As for the postcards, you can see the Walt Disney (A-1) portrait card for sure. I also think I recognize a few others like the Tinker Bell , Si & Am, and Chip & Dale Art Corner cards, Rocket to the Moon (vertical), Town Square, Keel Boats, and I think I could get a few more too!
Nice. Very rare images!
Almost like having a time machine. Thanks, Dave!
Where did thier space ship land?? These are amazing! Rare "land" indeed. THANKS FOR THESE!!! I love the colors on the "outfits" classic!!!!!
Great shot. Shriners at Disneyland is definitely a topic I though I would never see.
This is a SHAG painting come to life!
