The Disney Studio in Burbank

In a semi-related topic, today’s post features some photos from the Walt Disney Studio in Burbank, which dates back to 1939. It has the look and feel of a college campus, and thanks to the preservation of the buildings and signage, can almost make you feel like you are back in the 1940’s. It is cool to wander around and see the employees driving customized bikes around the lot, too...very green!

I couldn’t resist zooming in for a closeup of one of my favorite Disney characters:

One of the highlights of seeing the Studio is to be able to view the multiplane camera that created so many breathtaking shots in early Disney animation:

More to come tomorrow! See more Walt Disney Studio photos at my website.

Excellent. Glad to see you found your way for a tour of the lot! Sorry, I wasn't able to find information for you on how to set up a tour with your students (a couple of years ago).

There's some major construction going on around Sound Stage A - not too attractive at the moment.

Looking forward to seeing which parts of the studio you present. How recently were you there?

Neat photos Dave! I recently had lunch with a friend a "the lot" My 1st visit - WOW... I thought camera's were a no-no so I left mine at home but then saw tons of them around! My friend managed to get us into the old Ink & Pen building, we even found some old paint jars full of Disney colors, what fun.

I was amazed to see the multiplane camera just sitting right there with folks walking right by it like it was water cooler. You can almost touch it, I leaned in a little. Was it just me or is it in Mint condition? I hear its going to the new Museum in San Francisco. Thanks for the Photos!

Such a nice studio! I wish I had worked there back in the days when the "suburban street" and "Zorro" sets were still there. I don't work at the studio any more, but sure wish I had taken some photos!

Can U believe the camera is there! Whow! Would I love to get my hands on that. When we were doing animation cells for aerospace back in the '60's, we all wanted to just get a peek at a camera like this so we could do a simple copy to give some 'punch' to our work. Being limited to those pin registered boards was a big drag. Thanks for the great shots Dave.

Great shots of the studio! There is a great triangular sticker on the last shot of the multi-plane camera. It has Mickey Mouse in it and says Walt Disney Productions. They should sell more reproductions of old logo stuff like that.
