Disneyland, October 1966 Pt. 5
Hop back into your Skyway bucket, folks, as we continue our cruise over Fantasyland, October 1966. View #1 is a nice overview of Dumbo’s Flying Elephants and the snack shop/shaded sitting area. This was back in the days when you couldn't cut through to Frontierland. On the other side of our bucket we can see the Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship Restaurant:
Hang on Captain Hook...it isn’t officially YOUR restaurant just yet...Chicken of the Sea is still the sponsor!
Meanwhile, Goofy and Pluto are steering the ship to nowhere:
Last one for today is for Mike & Juli:
Tomorrow, we’ll exit by the side of the Castle and mosey on over to Frontierland! See more vintage and current Fantasyland photos at my website.

This is a fantastic series, Dave!
After seeing many very cool pirate ship pictures over the last couple of weeks... I am willing to bet that there are some people in the Disney organization looking back and wishing this "ICON" was never destroyed and that it could have been easily preserved. Great pictures, Dave. Thanks
Great images of the costumed characters. I like the live parrot in the cage in the foreground of the Captain Hook image. This is a great series with some nicely composed images, the person was quite a photographer.
Great photos!
I have seen a Goofy mask with a hinged jaw like that, any idea why it's like that?
Brian: This is only a guess, but I would have to say that it is probably so that his mouth would bounce when he walks, to give him that extra "Goofy" quality.
Dave, I think you might be right.
Hmmm, I would've never noticed the hinged jaw on Goofy. It's hinged on the photo that I have today as well.
OK - that hinged jaw is weird. I've never seen that before....
As I recall, Goofy's jaw was hinged so that when he walked, and bobbed his head, the jaw would stay in place and the upper part of the head would "bob". This was designed early on after some unsuccessful attempts at a solid open jaw, and after the CM complained of bruising on the chest. (The jaw is open so that the cast member inside can see.)
Check out the image of Goofy on "Gorillas Don't Blog", and notice that the mouth is partially closed but the lower jaw is in the same position.
