Casa de Fritos
Casa de Fritos was one of the few restaurants to garner its own poster at Disneyland. Originally located on New Orleans Street, it replaced the area formerly located by the Marshall's/Blacksmith's office.
This photo from January 1966 shows the entrance to the restaurant.
Recently, I acquired a number of Casa de Fritos photos that I believe were taken shortly before it was changed into Casa Mexicana, 1982.
And here is a similar angle taken recently at its latest incarnation, Rancho del Zocalo; although the decor is somewhat different, you can see the structure remains virtually the same.
Here are a few more photos from the 1981/82 photo session:
Last one for today is a detail shot of the menu marquee:

Great coverage of a missed restaurant!
Dave didn't mention it, but he did a wonderful job of recreating that Casa de Fritos poster in illustrator... it looks perfect!
Fantastic pictures Dave. Brings back a lot of cool memories. Definitely one of my favorite Disneyland eateries.
I hope to check out Rancho del Zocalo this weekend!
Any suggestions?
George - I recommend the Citrus Chicken; the chips are mighty tasty, too, and for dessert, gotta' get the Tres Leche Cake. Thanks for the kudos on the poster, Major!
Neat post Dave! Now I get a better idea of how the structure fits with today's Rancho del Zocalo. This my favorite place to eat at DL now!
You made that poster? I just figured you collected posters too! That looks like the real deal to me! Nice!
Yes-You did a great job on the poster.
So, the blacksmith shop area lived on as a dining location for Casa De Fritos/Mexicana...
I remember sitting there while dining in 1998 but I didn't know it was formerly the Blacksmith shop. I can vaquely remember the timber construction of the space.
Very nice to see some coverage of this former (and current) great Disneyland restaurant...I make it a point to eat there once during every trip.
Take care---
Wow! Amazing recreation. How did you do that?????
Thanks Jedblau...see my other website: http://davelandweb.com/gallery
Willard P. Bounds. Wasn't Bounds Lillian's maiden name?
Anonymous - You are correct; most of the names used at Disneyland had some kind of tie to a family member, friend, or employee.
