The rest of this series takes place in Frontierland. Hope you can stand a few days in the untamed parts of early Disneyland. It’s December 1956, and although we have a Keelboat and Fowler’s Harbor, there’s still no Columbia, Haunted Mansion, Fantasmic, OR Critter Country!

And here’s the mighty Mark Twain in the flesh; it really is a little startling to see so few people, so little landscaping, and even a telephone pole or two!

Take the telephone poles out of that first picture and the mind drifts back to a time and place way, way back. Good picture.
\From the early days department\ one of the things I wish I could have experienced; Oaks Tavern! Would loved to have sat right there and enjoyed that fare.

What's with the second story on the Oaks Tavern, the walls for the balcony look unfinished or was the the "look"? By 1960 it would be smoothed out (link)

I'm sure that at least half of my slides are of Frontierland... people just were fascinated by that land. Love that first picture, so barren and yet still cool.
VDT, I think that's Christmas garland over the doorways on the upper level of the Oaks Tavern.

I've never noticed antlers hanging from the structure at the Mark Twain dock. When did they remove them? Thanks for sharing the great pics.
