Disneyand, April 1963, Pt. 1
From Knott's to Main Street U.S.A., today's post continues with the series that I introduced yesterday from April 1963. The first image from Town Square yields some great closeups. You can see that Mr. Lincoln has yet to move in; instead, the Opera House is inhabited by the Mickey Mouse Club with a shoe shine stand situated in front.
Here's a better shot of the shoe shine stand:
The information booth is full of all kinds of merchandise; check out the little boy in the Mouse Ears proudly waving his souvenir!
Patriotism at its best; the country's flag and the state’s flag, waving proudly over Town Square.
The Carnation Gardens bandstand looks fairly empty; today, this place fills up with swing dancers on the weekend. It's quite a sight to see!
Today's post dumps you off at Central Plaza, with the Monsanto House of the Future just ahead.

I love the close-ups!! There is a window behind the little boy...it looks like an undersea world but what could it be for?
I remember begging to go into the Mickey Mouse Club to join but my parents always said "On the way out" and of course it was closed by the time we left :-(
I guess I never got over it!
These photos have some great color (and I can never get enough of Town Square). How about a closeup of the short construction fence in the distance. I don't have my thesaurus handy to check--is it perhaps a renovation for Wonderland Music moving in?
The Carnation Gardens bandstand is screaming for a "Before & After" shot! I agree, great color in these.
Finally I see a shot of the long pencils with the "eraser Mickey" head. It seemed that this was my regular souvenir when I was a kid. It was neat, it had a four color lead, so drawing with it was a lot of fun. Also, it that a Kodak sign, for taking a picture? Towards Tomorrowland. I wonder what the lower sign says. Uh Oh, am I becoming a sign geek?
It's funny how things come full circle. In my day, the Carnation Plaza was FILLED with with all kinds of dancing (swing included), and the bands were great. After work, Keith and I would shower and clean up in the employee's locker room, and stay the night for the dancing at least three nights a week.
