August 1959

1959 is one of the most exciting years in the park’s history. 3 of the biggest attractions opened all at the same time: The Monorail, The Matterhorn, and The Submarine Voyage. Happily, all three are still with us, although the Subs have had a bit of a change theme. Shot #1 for today shows the banners over Main Street proclaiming the new attractions as the Horse-Drawn Streetcar is pulled underneath.

Here’s a gleaming new Monorail taking passengers over the Submarine Voyage:

A little motion blur, showing two of the Monorail and the Matterhorn:

Definitely a great year for Disneyland and some really fine pictures for us. Thanks Dave.

More great photos, Dave! Do you happen to know why or when they got rid of the stone bridge on this side of the Matterhorn? I only noticed this recently, but it's now just "rockwork".
