Vintage Hotel del Coronado

Before getting to the subject of today's post, I wanted to address HouseoftheMouse who has ripped off (again) one of the photos from my collection, intentionally cropping off my website name and refusing to give me a tag or "thanks." Please let him know this isn't cool by either leaving a comment or reporting him. MUCH appreciated.

To give you an idea of the "man" behind the page, here's Matt, in all his (urp) glory. Please keep in mind...he doesn't like posting selfies. Urp again.

If you're tired of seeing the blurred and pixelated copies he posts with incorrect information, come visit the original: davelandweb.com/disneyland

NOTE: House of the Mouse's Instagram appears to be gone.

It's summer now, and what better way to spend your vacation than a long luxurious stay at the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego? Our vintage getaway begins in the 1950s with these views of guests enjoying the secluded beach that is part of the hotel's grounds.

Two views from May 1966 show the exterior window view of the Hotel's fabled restaurant, The Crown Room:

and an interior shot:

This exterior vintage shot from April 1969 shows two cars parked in front and a red roof that badly needs repair!

Head over to my main website for more vintage and current views of Coronado.

It took me so long to stop laughing. I find it hard to believe anyone so in love with themselves would have an issue with posting selfies. Perhaps the words "I don't normally post selfies but..." are being said to SEEM like there's no narcissism even though what follows is very clearly a parade of just that?

I don't normally post pics of me, but here's that time I was on People magazine as one of the 100 most beautiful people. Bask in the glory that is me. All hail Matt. Bow before the radiance that I cast.

Nope. Seems legit to me. No narcissism there! How could this guy be self-centered and rip off from someone else's collection to bolster his own attention? Seems so out of character, eh?

At the end of the day, Daveland was built on something ethical. Other people? Their light shines bright, but only half as long.

Great pics of the Hotel Del. I don't think I'd ever seen the roof in need of repair, certainly not like that. Hard to believe there was ever such a time. I'm always amused when people talk about the Grand Floridian Hotel, not knowing there's a bigger and better one that was the original inspiration.

What is particular galling is that you have always been quite generous about allowing your pictures to be used, so long as at least the watermark is there (and I know an occasional thank you is appreciated), so it's not as if this clown is liberating these photos from some crabbed old miser's cyberprison. It's just shameless, petty theft, right out there in front of God and everyone else.

You and only a couple of other sites (Gorillas Don't Blog; Stuff from the Parks) perform an invaluable service for Disneyland history buffs, providing a continual stream of historical photos, and I hope you know how grateful we are for your labors. Also, your original photography seems to get better and better all the time. Keep it up!

Thanks to both of you for the support. A simple tag doesn't seem like much to ask for and I am glad I am not alone in that thought!

You know, HBG2 just pointed out the only blogs I go to every day! I've never even heard of this other clown...

Dave,

To me, you, Major and Patrick are the only true online equivalent to an 'E' Ticket Magazine experience. No others comes even close to what you three have provided and have given to the community of Disneyland history fans on a daily and quality consistent basis. You are absolutely right in how you feel about this issue.

"House of the Mouse - preserving the history of Disneyland & WDW". Yeah, right! This guy probably doesn't have an ounce of creativity flowing through his veins.
