Scholarly Saturdays: Encyclopaedia Britannica & Adventureland, Pt. 3
Yup...Susie’s not going to forget this trip. She wants to go back to Fantasyland and she's not happy about getting on a dirty ol' boat to see animals. Although we refer to it as "The Jungle Cruise," as you can see by the sign its original name was the Jungle River Boat Ride. I get tired just saying it.
Check out the festive outfit of the skipper!
"Danger?" Nobody told Susie about this when she was invited to participate!
No sign of the swinging monkeys by this time in Disneyland history.
See more Encyclopaedia Britannica photos at my regular website.

The "dense vegetation" picture is funny, practically a "photo of nothing". I'm sure they could have found ONE more detail on the Jungle Cruise that was more interesting than that!
Major read my mind (which is easy, since I think in 72 point block caps). The caption reads "Dense Vegetation" but all I could think is "Weeds".
Does anybody know why the Chinese style temple (second slide to last) was removed?
Katella: it wasn't. It surrendered to the encroaching jungle. It almost had already when they took that pic, says so right there... ;)
Good pic of the Jungle River Ride boat but not so of the disturbed Giraffe, who was merely nibbling at tree tops. If the constant parade of boats hadn't kept disturbing him, just think how much lower the tree line would be today.
Giraffes nibble tree tops when not disturbed by Jungle River Ride boats. The expert guide warned her about "danger" too. Isn't that educational? Surely Susie will never forget! Especially since her seat was on the boiler.
