Tell-No-Tales Thursdays: Pirates in Jail
In what is probably the most famous scene of the ride comes this image: the pirates in jail.
Here’s the famous scene we all know (and hopefully) love. The classic image of the pirates attempting to coax the dog to give them the keys to free themselves. This shot is from a vintage publicity slide.
This shot is a publicity photo from 1967, when POTC was just open. How about that vintage popcorn box?!?
And as it looks today:
NO FLASH!
Here’s a closeup of the prisoner’s nemesis; that teasing canine wonder.
You can even see some of his inner workings if you look into his ear.
This guy is fast; one minute he's smoking a pipe, then next minute, he’s holding a bone for the pooch in the local jail.
Great use of the same mold.

I am wondering if that very first pic is the current version...because where is the whistling guy with the rope? Can you tell I haven't been in a while?
Yes, that first photo is SO different, what's the deal?
Speaking of using the same molds, I think that the whistling guy might be the same face mold as the lady blowing out the birthday candles in the Haunted Mansion. ??? Or maybe the dunked mayor?
There are actually two sets of three pirates trapped in the jail. The first picture shows you the first set of three that never get any love, and the second set is the famous one with the dog.
Damn you Dave and your your face replicant photos. Now I am going to have to look at ALL the faces in Disneyland for duplicates.
The dog with the key was favorite part of pirates when I was little. It's still one of my favorites now!
Dave, loved the Jemima post! There's something wonderful & gracious about that building isn't there? I'm doing some catching up here and me eyes are boggled. In a good way hehe
Oh Dave, this is the 2nd CGI Tink flick yeah? I'll make sure to see this one on your rec. but what did you tink of the first one? Also worth catching?
Chiana - The first one was surprisingly good, but I think the 2nd one shows a lot more attention to detail and is much more creative visually as well.
Thanks Dave I'll check them both out :)
