A Daveland Fave Decade: The 1960’s, Pt. 1

According to one of my recent polls, Daveland readers prefer the 1960’s when it comes to Disneyland. In honor of those results, I’m going to present a nice little batch of images from April 26, 1967. We begin this journey in time travel with a shot of our photographer’s hotel. One of the men in his group (we’ll call this one Al) looks mighty happy just sitting in his pool lounger with a bouffanted young dish in a bikini nearby. He’s not really thinking about Disneyland right now. No idea on the hotel, but it definitely smells vintage to me!

Our group finally gets gussied up and takes the tram into Disneyland. As they cross under the Monorail, they notice the attraction posters. Well...even if they don’t, us eagle-eyed readers do. Here’s a closeup with what looks like a circus tent in the background. You can also see a glimmer of the Disneyland sign.

Here are two adorable redheaded children; the little girl wants nothing to do with her pesky little brother. He’s got nothing to offer her but cooties! Yuck!

As you can see from this shot, the C.K. Holliday has just pulled into the Main Street Train Station, ready to give another gaggle of guests the Grand Circle Tour of Disneyland.

Come back again to continue the 1960’s fun! See more Disneyland (both recent and vintage) photos at my website.

That's bouffant rivals anything seen in the B-52's or Hairspray.

Love the bikini chick! And the fact that the guy is sunning himself fully dressed, including black loafers. Relax, dude!

I love that year! 1967 = New Tomorrowland! Hmmm, what month did that open? Did these people get to see it?

That circus tent is Melodyland Theater. Back then it was a real theater in the round (we saw Shirley Booth and Wayne Newdton there). I think it's a church of some sort now call Melodyland Christian Center.

Me too Thufer! We're crazy that way? But I look at those entrance pics and the anticipation is in the air. :)

Gear (er, '67... groovy yet?) pics Dave, looking forwards to the next post.
