Disneyland August 1958, Pt. 1

This glorious image from August 1958 shows the colorful attraction posters and Mickey Mouse entrance floral just as the E. P. Ripley is pulling into the Disneyland Main Street Train Station.



In Town Square, Vesey Walker is conducting the Disneyland Band as guests relax on the surrounding benches. Below, White Wing Trinidad Ruiz pushes his cart down Main Street, collecting the horse puckey from the Horse Drawn Streetcars.



Last image for today is a shot of the Monsanto House of the Future, perched atop its concrete foundation off Central Plaza.

Disneyland Comin' at Ya! Summer 1955, Pt. 1

I was very excited to acquire this group of 3D (presented here in Genuine FauxD©) slides showing Disneyland during its first year. The red white and blue bunting tells me these were taken during the first few months of operation. Look at the landscaping around the Mickey floral - positively barren! The first image shows the left and ride sides layered; the image below is a digital composite of the two, which provides slightly more information on both sides, including the slightly disheveled lady on the right.



The main subjects of our year one series can be seen standing in Town Square, waving to the photographer standing on the steps of the Main Street Train Station:

Zooming in, you can see that there’s still a crane near the Sleeping Beauty Castle turrets:



How about that non-themed trashcan that just says, “TRASH.” At this stage, the uniforms of the Disneyland Band were navy.



Our guests are standing in front of the Plaza Apartments just on the edge of Main Street/Central Plaza, with the Red Wagon Inn in the background. A Keystone Kop poses with them for good measure.



The panoramic view removes one of the obstructions from what I “assume” is a Main Street vehicle.



Last one for today shows our guests with their backs to Main Street:



A surrey and the Horse-Drawn Streetcar co-exist!

Vintage Disneyland, Circa November 1971

Welcome to November 1971 at Disneyland…or at least according to the date stamps on these images from different batches vintage slides! First up is the Disneyland Hotel. In the detailed view, you can see what appears to be the Lido Fashions shop and the sign at right for the Disneyland Hotel Coral Pool.



Below is an image of the Marina, which debuted in 1970.



I have no idea what that submarine/tank thing was for. Anyone?



Because I’m nosey, I had to peer into the rooms.



Inside the Park, the Snow White waterfall is working just fine.



You can just see the tip of Dopey’s fishing pole:



The waterfall is also working at the Matterhorn:



Attraction lines are apparently nothing new at Disneyland:

This image of the Main Street Train Station tips me off that this slide at least is most likely not from November, but was probably shot in July, due to the patriotic bunting on the lamppost.



Final one for today shows the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse; not a view you often see.

Disneyland, 9-15-1960 in 3D, Pt. 1

Hold onto your chairs, as my Genuine FauxD© images can cause queasiness! The first shot from September 15, 1960, shows the entrance and ticket booth area at Disneyland. The changing of the times is already in motion, as you see the two ladies dressed. up in hats and heels on the left and the more casual youth on the right in shorts. Below, I have stitched both the right and the left side of the 3D image so that you can see the full panoramic view of this shot:



This set also included the Flower Market located on Main Street between the Upjohn Pharmacy and the Carnation Ice Cream Parlour:

Disneyland Population: The Boring Conclusion

The Disneyland “population” (aka guest count) reached 300,000,000 in October 1995 (as seen in my previous post). The number by Spring 2000 on the Main Street Train station sign increased to 400,000,000:



The Park was celebrating its 45th Anniversary!



The numbers remained the same in April 2002:





Still 450,000,000 in January 2003:





Half a million by May 2004!





And here’s where you’re going to need the NoDoz caffeine pills. June 2005: 500,000,000



…just peaking out behind the train:



October 2006: 500,000,000. Happy Halloween!



January 2007: 500,000,000. Happy New Year!





May 2008: 500,000,000



Does an animated gif from September 2009 help the boredom? At least the train is moving, even if the number isn’t.



May 2012: 500,000,000



How is it possible that the Disneyland Population was stagnant for eight years?



FINALLY! In this June 2013 image, the number jumped to 650,000,000:





Sorry folks, it was just a temporary burst of activity. Here we go again: May 2015: 650,000,000.

According to inside sources, the number is still at 650 million as of January 2024. Maybe if somebody gets back on the job I’ll return to the Park. It could happen!
