Inside Rainbow Caverns, 1962

Hop aboard the Nature's Wonderland Railroad for a trip through the Nature's Wonderland attraction at Disneyland, circa August 1962.

A closeup of the cast member at the front of the train as it meanders through the scenery:

And then come the jaw-droppers. Well, for me at least. 2 consecutive shots showing the interior of the Rainbow Caverns:

Interior shots are extremely rare, as they were hard to capture with the camera equipment available at the time.

Wow, these are exceptional.

Thanks Dave. Now I'm off to listen to the Les Baxter-inspired Rainbow Cavern soundtrack.

Amazing that the colors are so vivid. Wonder how that was achieved?

Well loved and lamented by those of us who worked it. KS

Loved this attraction, and thanks for all these photos. I wish there was a way to have both Nature's Wonderland trains and BTMRR in one huge area. Too bad both couldn't have happened!
Thanks, Dave, and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I visited Disneyland exactly once, in 1973 (I've been to WDW about 10 times, though). My best memories were Pirates of the Caribbean, The Matterhorn, and Natures Wonderland/ Rainbow Caverns. I can still hear the "other worldly music" playing. Talk about magical! I think the imagineers have definitely lost a few steps since then...

I'll add my kudos for those two COLOR Rainbow Caverns photos. That mine train era is still one of my nostalgic favorites. Thank you Dave for sharing them.
