Snow White Waterfall, 1966

Another favorite (and lesser known) area of the park is this waterfall located near the Castle at Disneyland. Snow White is here with the Seven Dwarves and assorted woodland animals. This one is from September, 1966, and doesn't really look any different today. These marble statues were a gift from overseas, and their sculptor is still unknown. It has been theorized that they were some kind of art school project, as the height relation of Snow White to the dwarves is incorrect. So, to correct that error, Disney used forced perspective to make Snow White appear taller. The studio created the woodland animals to add to the tableau.

I have also added more Disneyland photos to my main website.

Some art school project! I would have built them out of elmer's glue, macaroni, and plenty of glitter.

The official version of the story I heard was that the Italian sculptor had as a model was a set of soaps in the shape of Snow White and the Dwarves. The soaps were all the same size (Snow White being the same height of the Dwarves) so the sculptor used those dimensions. That being said, it is still one of my favorite places in the park and I always visit the spot. And I have always liked the John Hench sketch for the area.

Matterhorn -that is also what my tour guide on the Walt Tour at Disneyland told me (just expanded from what I wrote). The only thing I wonder is if they are really made of marble; the streaks in the marble are so pronounced that they almost look faux. The other interesting thing about that area is that in the early 1990s, when the Snow White Grotto at Disneyland was refurbished, Caselotti re-recorded "I'm Wishing" for the Snow White Wishing Well at the age of 75.
