Disneyland August 1956: Color Restoration 4
Yet another day in Tomorrowland, 1956. Originally, Tomorrowland was similar to a County Fair, with lots of exhibits from major brand names. One in particular was sponsored by Dutch Boy Paints. Previously, I had posted this dark photo that showed the interior of their exhibit, The Dutch Boy Paint Color Gallery; this 2nd photo is from the August 1956 batch and shows a clearer view of the color circles on the ceiling.
We also get 2 nice views of the Autopia; in the background of shot #1 we see the infamous cattle cars of the Disneyland Railroad.
In Autopia shot #2, there’s a glimpse of the Phantom Motor Boats, chugging around in their final summer appearance:
This shot taken from the Skyway provides a better idea of what the Phantom Boats looked, which was something right out of Batman! Holy Smokes! I wonder if the pink one inspired Mary Kay Cosmetics?
Come back tomorrow for the final post of this August 1956 series. See more vintage & current Tomorrowland photos at my website.

another great set dave....thanks.
the last picture begs the question(i have forgotten) was the waters of the motor boat cruise always unfiltered? my memory tell me it (the water) was never clear, however, i do not remember it being thick mud brown either.(?)
Dang Dave, these are an amazing set, but that last one, the Phantom boats load area and TWO boats and the ticket booth!!!! WOW, all fantastic, THANKS!!! I've never seen the little Autopia License plates so clearly, THANKS SO MUCH!!!
Wow, Dave, these are awesome. Rare rare stuff, amazing!
This series has provided some very unusual views. Thanks!
You have out-done yourself today Dave. Phantom Boats, Dutch Boy ceiling and a great view the DLRR rolling stock. Absolutely awesome pics - all of them.
awesome restoration you've got keep it up :-)
One word: WOW!
Although I have done some color restoration, I would not say the colors I was able to get out of these magenta slides is still extremely accurate; this would probably account for some of the brown/green cast to the water for the phantom boats. If you look at this view, you can see that water is blue: http://davelandweb.com/tomorrowland/images/KTPBK_1956_N08B.jpg
Thanks all for the nice comments!
That first photo has the most startling color combination. I will have to steal it... I'm only half kidding. Disneyland always had the best designers. When I get stuck for treatment of color, surface texture, or landscaping, I keep a "pilfer file" of pictures from the park. I can usually turn up something that helps.
Excellent!!
