True Love at the Park: Walt and Lillian

I love this photo of Walt with his beloved wife, Lillian. But…it seems as if it was not actually shot at the Park. Something about the way it is lit and staged, it seems as if Walt & Lillian were actually shot elsewhere and then spliced in. I could be wrong. It happens every now and then. Either way, it's a beauty of the couple sitting in a Horseless Carriage with the Castle in the background.

I had the same reaction when I first saw this picture! However, it could be an example of MGM flat lighting. As you said, either way, its a great photo!

I think it was taken in the location you see it at. The reflection on the front of the car shows an irregular horizon that seems to include trees and the curbs of a paved street with foliage. The thing about this that makes it look odd is that the sunlight is competing with a reflective light source coming in from the side, providing it a very "studio lighting" effect even though they're outside.

At first I thought maybe it was the studio with the face backdrops of the park that Disney would use during the early 60s shows (like Disneyland After Dark). However, I'm looking at it and inclined to think 'Fifthrider' is right. This would be an early morning shot (maybe Lilly stayed in the apartment with Walt that night). The shadow to the left of the vehicle is the actual sun's. The shadow behind the vehicle would be from a high-powered light/flash to fill it out, and this may have been halogen or incandescent, which would lead to the color saturation difference between the car and the castle.

The shadows behind the horseless carriage seem to match that of shadows seen near the top of the castle, on the main roof, behind the tallest turret and...as the corner outcropping of the main castle wall below the far left turret, between the purple and gold banner and the green and gold banner.
