Murphy Monday: The Finale!

“Just over the Castle wall is Fantasyland, son!” Today, in the last post of the series, Audie Murphy and his family visit the most fabled land at Disneyland. Youngest son, James Shannon, looks very excited and can’t wait to get out of that stroller.

Off to Neverland, in a magical flying ship, the Murphy sales into the Peter Pan dark ride:

Not sure a child sitting on Mama's lap would fly at Disneyland today, especially on a wild ride like Mr. Toad!

Exiting the castle, it appears Terrance picked up a Fireman's hat somewhere.

Did the Murphy family make it to Tomorrowland? Most likely yes, but I have not seen or been able to obtain any of those images.

See more vintage and contemporary Disneyland Fantasyland photos at my main website.

I am really disoriented as to where that second photo was taken. I mean, I know it's Fantasyland, but where? That staircase and awning in the background don't look familiar.

Hi Chuck - Here's a later shot of the same area: https://www.davelandweb.com/fantasyland/images/70s/CTTSTS_5_73_N30B.jpg

Chuck, it is in the back west corner of Fantasyland, the marquee to the left in the Audie photo is that of the Theater entrance. To the right in the photo (out of view) would be the wall that screened the backstage area behind the Rainbow Caverns stage building.

That area was pretty blank when new, and later filled up with vendor carts and tables for the FAN dining counter.

Chuck, here is another shot from Dave's splendidly organized library.

This one is taken from the skyway queue and shows the staircase in the Audie photo with more context. Note the vendor stall with the pink trim is added.

Thanks Dave, this is fun.

JG - Thanks for the additional links/info on the location!

Sure thing, Dave.

I remember having the same questions when you posted other Audie pictures some time ago, so it stuck in my mind.

Are these from that same lot, or did you get more?

Hi JG: Most of the Fantasyland ones were the ones I already had; however all the Frontierland and Main Street ones were new, as well as the Jungle Cruise shots.

How lucky that you could get more, it's a nice gallery of a famous man.

Thank you for sharing them with us.
