Early Disneyland, Pt. 3
Today is another glimpse of Frontierland before it opened. This area probably will look unfamiliar to many as the landscape has changed a great deal in 50 years. The thatched roof belongs to the Aunt Jemima restaurant, which now is the Riverbelle Terrace. The teepees show the original area that the Indian Village occupied before it was moved to the area now known as Critter Country. I have also included a detail shot of the signage, just for all the other signage geeks like me.
See more vintage & current Frontierland photos at my regular website.

Wow! What a completely rare shot - the first Indian Village! I mean really rare - I've never seen the 1st location before.... Pretty sure it's not 1954 though - there would not have been much completed at that time!
Super neat, this looks like one of those Bruce Gordon photos. Unbelievably rare! Glad you got at least one...!
Very Interesting shot. And don't feel bad about putting in the enlargement of the signs... most of the photos I have of the Park are "technical" ones showing signs, lighting standards, landscaping ... if you're gonna steal ideas, steal from the best.
BTW, what is the complete message on the "CLOSED" sign over the bridge say?
Who is that scary guy standing behind the fence in the second picture?
Wow, ultra-rare! If you stand at the spot today it looks just a little bit different.... Yeah, what does the closed sigh say? And what is that man from the "Outer Limits" doing behind the fence?
Well, if that's not a perfect candidate for a 'then & now' shot, I don't know what is! Really great.
