Disneyland: In Glorious Black & White

These undated 1950’s images provide a nice detailed look at 1950’s Disneyland. First shot is the Bekins Storage area, which eventually changed to Global Van Lines, which eventually became part of the Emporium. Here’s a contemporary view:

Sleeping Beauty Castle doesn’t look so bad in black & white; note the costumed ice cream vendors on the right:

And here is a similar view from this year:

Mesmerizing indeed! Thanks Dave We LOVE these before and after photo! Too bad the old Castle photo is not in color so we can see the original hue’s (or lack there of!)

THANKS DAVE!!!!

Love the black and white castle shot.

I think we've seen that second photo before? Why replace that distinctive and interesting Bekins storefront with that generic roof? It makes me crazy because those little buildings now resemble oversized (and cheap) dollhouses. Vintage colors can be researched, it's not that hard. But... well, I'm ranting again!

Nice post Dave---And the 'now' shots add a lot to the mix.

Do you find many shots of the area immediately surrounding Disneyland? I'm thinking mainly of old motels and such...

Thanks for your efforts!

No - I really don't have many slides of other Anaheim hotels/motels. That would be a whole other collection - I have a hard enough time keeping up with this one! What I DO get is a few stray Knotts and San Diego Zoo slides.
