Debbie and Eddie on Main Street

On Opening Day at Disneyland, July 17, 1955, Walt visits with America's Sweetheart, Debbie Reynolds and then hubby Eddie Fisher.

Note the strategically placed promo for Coca Cola. Yup…even in the 1950's there was product placement.

Debbie seemed to be going for a rustic look with her thatched hat and homemade snack tin. I hope she wasn't bringing snacks INTO the park!

Four years later, Eddie had dumped Debbie for Elizabeth Taylor and returned to the Park. America lost interest in Eddie the snake and so did Liz.

Looks like Elizabeth has her two sons from Michael Wilding, Christopher and Michael Jr. with her at Disneyland. Their little outfits are a hoot.

Now who is that older kid with Debbie and Eddie holding the cup of Coke? If it's 1955 it can't be their kid.

I'm a huge fan of photos showing public figures and celebrities at Disneyland and these are great ones! Thanks, Dave.

Gee, Debbie's dress is just loaded with rik rak! Now I'm wondering why rik rak isn't used much anymore?

TokyoMagic!, I remember that trim but never knew it was called rik rak. Her outfit definitely supports the goody two shoes images she was given even though she was not.

That's not a snack tin - it's Debbie's purse - it was made out to look like an old handled wooden cheese box - my aunt had one very similar to it. And of course Coke was in the picture! Eddie's sponsor for his weekly TV show then (Coke Time with Eddie Fisher) was of course, COKE.
