Disneyland August 1956: Color Restoration 2

Still on Main Street U.S.A., August 1956. A red horseless carriage carries guests up to Central Plaza and the Castle. On the far left of the photo, you can catch a glimpse of one of the most notorious shops every to grace Main Street: Hollywood Maxwell’s Intimate Apparel, aka The Wizard of Bras. The shop closed shortly after this photo was taken. Here’s a closeup of that area, complete with a dummy sitting on the porch:

In front of the Main Street Cinema is one of the two Wooden Indians that can be found at the park:

Over in Adventureland, we have a lovely shot of the Jungle Cruise:

Come back tomorrow for our exciting exploration of Tomorrowland, 1956! See more vintage & current Main Street photos at my website.

Great post! I wonder if any of the people who rest on that bench these days has any clue that was the Wizard of Bra's store at on time. I sure never used to know that, until the "blogs" Thanks Dave!

There's just something about these super-early photos, even if they are views that we've seen many times before... they just look cooler when they are from '55 or '56! Great rare shot of the Intimate Apparel shop (and Blue Bird Shoes). Neat to see somebody up in the observation tower at the Jungle Cruise too!

Sorry, Dave...

I thought that was you sitting on the porch at first!

Truly fantastic pictures Dave. I agree with Major, Main St was cool then.

Color shots of the Hollywood-Maxwell store are rarer than frog teeth! Thanks for sharing.

Oh man, Hollywood Maxwell! I've always wanted to see a shot of that signage. Great post. Thanks so much!
