Freaky Fridays @ The Haunted Mansion: The Exit

The mirrors that everyone looks forward to riding by; which Hitchhiking Ghost will be in my Doombuggy this time? Looks like Ezra:



Here’s a little “behind-the-scenes” peak into how the effect is achieved:





I also really dig the Jean Cocteau inspired sconces on the wall here; too bad the hands don’t move like the ones from “Beauty & The Beast” (1946) that they were modeled after:







Here are two shots of the pattern that was recently stamped on the loading/unloading runners; a nice touch of carrying the theme out of this Victorian Mansion that makes this "modern" technology look slightly less modern.

November 1959: In Living Color, BONUS 2!

It’s the big finish...really, I mean it! Back in Fantasyland, a very shadowed shot of the Carrousel, followed by 4 images from Storybook Land. The first is of Scarf-gal & Monstro, then two focusing on the Cinderella/Tremaine area, and the fourth from Pinocchio and Gepetto’s Village.









Now it’s REALLY time to say goodby to Scarf-gal. Thanks for the memories, and here’s a dusky exit shot to part with:

April 1964, Pt. 1: Disneyland Railroad

Back to black and white, here are a few from April 1964, beginning with a shot taken by a guest approaching the entrance to the park. It’s springtime, and just as it is today, the park was in full bloom. And how about those attraction posters in shot #2?



By this time, the Chicken Plantation was gone, the Haunted Mansion exterior was finished, and construction on New Orleans Square had begun. In addition, the Frontierland Depot was moved across the tracks and this new waiting area had been built:

Scary Minnie & POTC

If Disneyland wanted to get people to exit the park quickly, this surely would do it: stick a "Scary Minnie” by the gates. Here she is, circa October 1962. Although a little on the creepy side, she is definitely an improvement over the rat-like version from opening day. KK, this one is for you! Park Exit, July 1960

When was the last time you saw only a handful of people around the entrance/exit area? This one from July 1960 also includes a close-up of the banner proclaiming the Nature’s Wonderland upgrade, Art of Animation, and America the Beautiful.



For Eagle-Eye Reader Mouse Monthly, here's a closeup of the mysterious ball he noticed that appears to be on top of one of the entrance flags. I have no idea what it is for. Anyone?

Exit Sign & Ticket Booth

First shot today shows the exit sign from July 1961. Moving onto the blue ribbon shot for today is this view of the Ticket Booth from January 1968. Whoever this photographer was, today I am their number one fan! And please, sign me up for a $6.50 guided tour!
