Meet Me at Coke Corner

Instead of meeting at "The Hub," we typically meet at the slightly quieter Coke Corner. It was early enough that it wasn't officially opened for business, which is my favorite time to snap a few shots!

Disneyland Half Marathon Report, Pt. 4 and World of Color

We decided to head over to Disneyland for a bit until it was time for World of Color, with the Matterhorn being our first destination. Matt pointed out these dragon-adorned light fixtures in the Emporium which I hadn't noticed before.



Up the street, Doug got a hot dog (since the ice cream sundae wasn't enough for him) while I snapped a few shots.





Unfortunately, the Matterhorn had to shut down for repairs just as we got there, so we ended up just going back to DCA, catching a ride with Ariel to pass the time.



Ursula and her evil minions are still my favorite part of this attraction.





While waiting for World of Color to start, my camera kept snapping:

And finally it was time for World of Color, which was just as magical as the two other times I have seen it. The music, the colors, the mist screens, and the dancing sprays of water create a feast for the senses. These photos barely begin to capture the beauty of it all.

Disneyland June 1966, Pt. 1

I love this colorful shot of the grounds and pool at the Disneyland Hotel, part of a batch from June 1966.

And the secret word for today is "PLAID"!



This little gent is patiently waiting in the courtyard of the Enchanted Tiki Room, standing in front of the Tiki Statue of Pele.



Notice how the rock work in the lower right resembles a skull?



Here's the same area, circa February 2006:



Last one for today shows the natives on the Jungle Cruise, endlessly dancing in a circle while the poor lion at right hangs upside down.

2000th Post Extravaganza: Candy, Coke, and Cole's

To the right of this lovely young lady and the most scary Minnie Mouse ever seen, you can get a gander at the Candy Palace & Coca Cola Refreshment Corner. I am pleased to say that these two shops/restaurants are still to be found at Disneyland today.

Here's a color view of the same area from 1957. Although I rarely do any shopping at Disneyland until the end of the day, it would not be rare for me to duck into the Candy Palace for a sweet treat in the afternoon...to be eaten on the spot, of course. What's your favorite Candy Palace confection?
