A Day at Disneyland, September 1969: Pt. 1

This multi-part series showcases a September day at Disneyland, circa 1969. For the most part, these are in chronological order. The first one is a nice juice shot of the parking lot, now known as Disney California Adventure. Can you spot the vintage attraction posters on the pylons?

Before “Song of the South” was banned, Brer Bear and Brer Fox roamed freely through the Park.

Really digging the sunglasses, hairdo, and dress on the lady on the left!

Brer Fox - how about those shoes?

Can’t quite make out the population number.

Breakfast was over on New Orleans Street in Frontierland at Aunt Jemima’s Kitchen.

I could sure go for some of those pancakes right now, with a nice dollop of butter on top!

Apparently, the next stop was the Submarine Voyage over in Tomorrowland:

How the family looked as they left the Triton Submarine (D-305):

The Monorail Station is right nearby; how about a ride?

A closer look at Monorail Yellow and the bubble:

At this time, Tomorrowland was all Space Age and Rolly Crump!

From the Ticket Booth on the left:

…to the Rocket Jets, perched high above the PeopleMover!

Holiday 1963 Miscellany

Time for the grand finale of this December 1963 Christmas batch. Feathered Hat Gal is at the gate of Frontierland. The tyke is tired and in the stroller now. Or maybe she just wants to be close to her Mickey balloon.

From the Mark Twain, we have a view of the Rivers of America dock; looks like a foggy morning!

Feathered Hat Gal poses aboard the Twain.

Two views of the thundering falls of Cascade Peak:

The last one shows the Yellow Monorail at the station, with the Skyway Buckets overhead.

The Yachtsmen Quartet have abandoned their post:

This 1965 image shows where they would normally be performing:

Disneyland, September 1971

As 2021 comes to a close, I present the last vintage Disneyland post of the year. This little series from September 1971 begins with an overhead view of the Chicken of the Sea Restaurant, shot from a Skyway bucket. In the background you can see the hidden dining area adjacent to Skull Rock Cove.

Note that there is nothing against the wall in this photo:

Whereas in this 1965 there was a vending machine:

As the Skyway bucket continued its journey, our 1971 photographer got this stunning shot of the yellow Monorail:

A balloon seller is visible below:

In one frame you have the PeopleMover, Motor Boat Cruise attraction sign, and the Monorail. At least one still exists!

Note this Fantasyland Ticket booth:

Still around when I took this photo in 2010, but repurposed as a Kodak Film and Photo Information booth. Film? What’s that?!?

The Skyway bucket next takes us over the Submarine Voyage Lagoon:

So much to see here: the Autopia, the Skyway, the Submarine Voyage, the PeopleMover, and the Carousel of Progress. Only one remains. Sorry, I just can’t count Losing Nemo.

Over in Fantasyland, the original Tournament Festival Tent façades remain on the attractions, but the Mad Tea Party now has those lacy arches between the light fixtures:

A closer view of the Mr. Toad façade and the crazy fashions/hairdos of the 70’s:

Last one shows the Dumbo ticket booth:

Closer:

So close you can read it!

Photos? Tickets? Dang…these photos must be old!

Monorail Details, 1965

So much to see in this August 1965 Disneyland Monorail shot. Let’s start with the two paper cups in the trashcan. They look like they’re ready for Valentine’s Day.

Next up you can see the Yachtsmen Quartet down below performing for guests. One is either dreamily looking up at the singers or dead tired and resting on the balcony. You decide.

Last detailed view shows the bubble, my favorite part about these old Monorails!

A Day at Disneyland, August 1967

Sometimes the most fun part of acquiring these vintage slide collections is trying to figure out the story behind them. This August 1967 set could go a few different ways. How about I just present the facts as I see them and let your vivid imaginations do the rest? This group/family poses in front of the Rolly Crump New Tomorrowland Ticket Booth with the Submarine Attraction Blue Monorail behind them. I can hear you readers now. “Hey Dave! Can you zoom into the pockets of those two dudes so we can see the ticket books?” Already tried. Just a blurry mess.

The next shot in the sequence shows the Yellow Monorail:

Nothing like a 1960s big blonde bouffant on the Snow White attraction in Fantasyland:

The two gents from our group seem only semi-excited to be on the Disneyland Railroad car as it exits the New Orleans Station.

This time I will zoom into the pocket for you. This guy already ate through his E tickets.

Looking back at New Orleans Square as the train pulls out of the station:

In Town Square the gents get caught by a Keystone Kop:

To the left you can just barely see the interior of the Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln attraction:

Last one of my set shows Doug & Jim. Doug's tattoo would make it appear that he was 13 when he got it. I'd say Doug is still pretty close to age 13 in this shot. Jim decided to keep his age to himself.

Doug isn't in any of the shots I acquired, but he did appear in this one that slipped through my fingers. He sure knew how to make a pompadour!

I REALLY hated that I missed this one, too.

That's the way the cookie crumbles.
