Holiday 1963 Miscellany

Time for the grand finale of this December 1963 Christmas batch. Feathered Hat Gal is at the gate of Frontierland. The tyke is tired and in the stroller now. Or maybe she just wants to be close to her Mickey balloon.



From the Mark Twain, we have a view of the Rivers of America dock; looks like a foggy morning!

Monorail Details, 1965

So much to see in this August 1965 Disneyland Monorail shot. Let’s start with the two paper cups in the trashcan. They look like they’re ready for Valentine’s Day.

Next up you can see the Yachtsmen Quartet down below performing for guests. One is either dreamily looking up at the singers or dead tired and resting on the balcony. You decide.

Last detailed view shows the bubble, my favorite part about these old Monorails!

Disneyland, Summer of '63: Tomorrowland, Pt. 2

Back in Tomorrowland, this poor little tot can barely be seen over the steering wheel of his Autopia vehicle. A cast member appears to be assisting him.

Nearby, one of the submarine fleet is cruising through the lagoon to the delight of onlookers.



Zoom A shows the Tomorrowland Central Ticket booth:



Zoom B shows an older couple, enjoying a little relaxation while watching the sub. The Rocket to the Moon attraction entrance is in the background:



This turtle was one of the sights guests would see on the Submarine attraction:



High up above, the Yachtsmen Quartet was performing for the guests below.

City Hall Quintet

In my opinion, this October 1963 image needs no companion. Five lovely young ladies wearing fashion that is so very "Mad Men," sitting on a bench in front of City Hall in Disneyland's Town Square. Behind them is a very simple hand-lettered sign proclaiming the highlights of the park that guests could enjoy.



I wonder if they all worked together, in a Madison Avenue Agency perhaps..out West on holiday. Could Don Draper be the one behind the camera?

Disneyland Year 5: August 1960, Pt. 2

It’s more Tomorrowland goodness, starting off with a shot of the Monsanto House of the Future that’s so close, you can almost reach out and touch it!

Shot #2 is chock full of Tomorrowland fun: The Yachtsman Stage/Platorm, The Submarine Voyage entrance, a genuine Blue Monorail, AND a round Skyway bucket floating overhead. Life just doesn’t get any better than this.



Finishing things off is a beauty of the Motor Boat Cruise, which has become a somewhat under-utilized area of the park today.

November 1959: In Living Color, Pt. 4

Scarf-gal is clinging tightly to her Astro Jet rocket as it circles around Tomorrowland. In shot #2, the Clock of the World provides a wacky welcome to all who enter Tomorrowland. Today, that wacky welcome (and a traffic bottleneck) is brought to you by the Astro Orbiter. If rumors are true, the Orbiter is destined to either be removed or returned back to its original site. Either way, it will be nice to have the entrance to Tomorrowland cleaned up again.



For have also included a closeup of the Moonliner and various signage.



For those of you that didn’t read CoxPilot’s comments yesterday (fantastic as always), here is a comparison photo of the General Dynamic signpost and the stage for the Yachtsman that was eventually attached to that signpost:

Irving Bernstein Collection, Pt. 2

Wowee-kazowee! Check out the spiked heels on our Spacegirl in Tomorrowland! Looks like she’s trying to entice Spaceman to remove his helmet. What a Jezebel. Welcome to Day 2 of The Irving Bernstein Collection. Shot #2 is also in Tomorrowland; I believe we are looking at the queue for the Submarine Voyage. It appears that there is an invasion of Cub Scouts at the park on this day!



Most people would pass by on the next two photos; but being a true Disneyland geek, I immediately knew (even from the closeup) that these two shots were of the Yachtsmen Quartet. I have included a color photo from 1965 for your visual verification.

The Devlin Collection: Tomorrowland

We’ve seen the Devlin’s photos of the New Tomorrowland construction; now let’s take a look at the rest of their Tomorrowland collection. First two views are from October 1965. The Skyway Buckets are now square and the Richfield Eagle still sits proudly above the Autopia. Meanwhile in shot #2, the Yachtsmen Quartet croons their hearts away. Something tells me these fellers wouldn’t have gotten along very well with the Yippies.



This undated image shows a nice criss-cross of the Blue Monorail and The Peoplemover; the waters of the Motor Boat Cruise are in the lower left-hand side of this photo.



Last one for today is from October 1969; Tomorrowland looks fantastic! The Mary Blair murals, The PeopleMover is humming, and the Rocket Jets are exactly where they should be: high above the guests attached to a Rocket Ship:
