Chicken of the Sea

Here are two from the same undated batch as yesterday (the ones with the rock at the Castle) featuring the Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship, with the original round Skyway buckets overhead.



As a bonus, here are 2 slightly dark views of the ship a few years later during the Tencenniel, Sept. 1965; obviously the new square bucket has arrived on the scene by now. Please excuse the stroller in the middle of the shot.

Central Plaza Mish-Mash

It’s Hump Day and I’m cleaning house today with a few assorted odds and ends from CP. Pic 1 is from March 12, 1964 with a nice shot of the Pavillion sign. Next up are 3 undated (same series) shots, starting with a blurry Trolley Shot (Hall of Chemistry in back).



Is this “rock” still there?

The Columbia & The Rivers of America, Sept. 1959, Pt. 2

For the masses who have been patiently waiting since yesterday with baited breath, here is part 2 of my Columbia/Rivers of America Series. We start off with one of my all times faves; the boy with the red DLand pennant on the left is just classic. And of course the Indiana along the river. Although the Indian looks pretty good these days, that poor horse needs a refurb badly. Chugging along, we catch the entire Indian Village, who seems not to care one iota about the large vessel sailing by.





That’s it folks; we are back at the dock. Get the heck off the ship and go have a churro or turkey leg. Hope you enjoyed our little cruise.

Cypress Gardens, 1982

A high school band trip in 1982 yielded these green and lush photos of the famous Cypress Gardens in Florida. The southern belles on the shore were a nice touch.

The Columbia & The Rivers of America, September 1959

Today we’ll begin a 2 part journey around the Rivers of America on the Columbia. I love it when the exact date is printed on the slide, and this one is September 2, 1959. Kind of a “You Are There” type thing; makes you feel more connected, ya’ know? For pic 2, I have included a detail of the right-hand side, which shows the bridge to (I believe) the Chicken Plantation. Can anyone identify what the signage on the left of the closeup is for? It looks pretty rustic, so perhaps the Indian Village.

More December 1965

No, your eyes don't need glasses (well, maybe they do, but not because of this photo); this December 1965 Jungle Cruise shot is a little blurry. The last shot from my December 1965 batch shows our blue-sweatered miss standing in front of the MS Train Station, with the glorious handcart behind her. Oh yeah, and that Mickey floral, too.

Storybook Land and more Aunt J

Here are two detailed December 1965 shots from Storybook Land, featuring Cinderella’s Castle and the village below. Dig the jaunty little beret in shot 2 of the guest in the boat.



Meanwhile, Daveland Blog fan Michael sent in 2 shots of the Aunt J pancake mix box, featuring a plug for Disneyland. “Party” Pancakes? Count me in! Sounds like the right way to start off the day. Thanks for sharing these, Michael!

Breakfast with Aunt Jemima

Yup, Aunt Jemima used to have her own restaurant at Disneyland, located in the “old” New Orleans section of Frontierland. From 1955 until 1970, she was the Aunt Jemima Pancake House (changed to Aunt Jemima’s Kitchen during a 1962 expansion). Aylene Lewis portrayed the famous Southern Cook at the park and would pose with guests for photos. This photo in genuine FauxD© is from summer, 1967, and I have included a closeup of the sign. Currently, this restaurant is now the Riverbelle Terrace, which is undergoing a refurbishment that should be completed mid-December.

Bonekraft

For the gift shop that’s on EVERYONE’S shopping list at Christmas, it has to be the Bonekraft Shop in Frontierland, circa Summer 1957. While we’re in Frontierland today, might as well stop at the Casa de Fritos, March 12, 1964.
