Disneyland September 1962, Pt. 1

It's September 1962, and you're getting closer to the park...closer...closer...underneath the Monorail pylons...

approaching the ticket windows (well, actually, this is the exit, but you're a smart cookie...you know to walk around to the right).



And then you're in, with Mickey greeting as you walk through the turnstile. What a fantastic way to start your day at the Happiest Place on Earth!



Shopping for plastic flowers wouldn't be at the top of my list, but I won't judge these people for that little lapse in taste. Not one bit.



Instead, I'll just display a little envy for this guy being able to pose inside the cool Carnation Company Truck parked on West Center Street. Don't think that stroller parked against the window went undetected here either, no sirree!



Central Plaza can be so overwhelming; where to go first? The Castle and Matterhorn send out conflicting signals, making it difficult for guests to choose. Oh the pain.



Fortunately, this particular guest decided to spend some time at the Monsanto House of the Future. This little Avenue of Flags represented each of the States, with an accompanying plaque/sign for guests to get edumacated by.



This guy sure loved plastic homes.



Can you hear him now...yelling across the little lake...attempting to get his best girl to pose?





Merciful heaven...he even captured a decent inside image. If I could only send this man my gratitude through time I definitely would...along with a request to get some more interior shots!

Disneyland, October ’59, Pt. 1

There are many sights, sounds, and smells that put a smile on my face when I enter Disneyland. One of them is waiting in line at the entrance and seeing/hearing the train pull into the Main Street Train Station. Apparently this October 1959 photographer felt the same way. I have included detail shots as well, focusing in on the Fred Gurley & Excursion Cars.

July 1960 Visit

The Good News: These rare views are over 40 years old. The Bad News: These rare views are over 40 years old. Expect color shifts. Expect fading. OK, now that the disclaimer has been made, let’s get down to biz. As usual, the Daveland Tour starts at the entrance to Disneyland and the Main Street Train Station; today’s series is no exception! Once through the tunnel, we turn back to see the Fred Gurley at the station, ready to take a Grand Circle Tour around the park.



By the time our photographer made it up to the Station, another train had pulled in. Check out this load of guests just chompin’ at the bit to get to the Frontierland Station!



Plenty of transportation choices available on Main Street, including these horseless carriages.





For the more traditional park guest, a Surrey may be the ride of choice; and with the price of gas these days, 10¢ a ride seems purty darn good!

1959 Trio

Just a short set before the weekend. I feel bad for these poor gals; if you had to wear gloves at Disneyland, you probably wouldn’t be smiling either. The little girl is hiding her gloves in shame, as she doesn’t want to be known as “The-Girl-who-wore-gloves at Disneyland.” Smart thinking on her part! Excursion Cars & Hand Cart in background. Shot 2 is a rarity; few guests take photos of the backside of the castle, which, ironically, was supposed to be the front until Herb Ryman decided to switch it around.



All you JC skippers, feel free to step in for #3 with your best hokey-pokey gag.
