Blue Monorail and HOJO

Not wanting Disneyland’s Blue Monorail to feel left out, here’s a Summer 1970 shot of it circling the Matterhorn.

When I zoomed in to get a closer look at the bubble, I noticed the sign for the Howard Johnson across the street on Harbor Boulevard:

A previously posted shot from my collection showing the Motor Lodge itself with its cute little trolley. Wonder what happened to it?

HoJo's was always a special stop for us CMs to have a beer after hours. Great times and memories. KS

Until now I had never known it was nicknamed HOJOs. I have to wait decades after a beloved chain disappeares to learn this?

Great combination of themes here. Thanks for the fine photos of the monorail.

We stayed at this Hojo's once, when our favorite Jolly Roger Inn was full. I think it was the only time I ever stayed at one, but we had stopped for meals at other locations in other states. The classic orange roof on the standard design gatehouse was easy to spot.

This Anaheim hotel was designed by William Pereira (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Pereira_) who would later be famous for the Transamerica Pyramid in San Francisco.
