Sailing Through Sundays on The JC: Safari Outpost

This has to be one of my favorite JC scenes; the crazy monkeys/gorillas/apes (I’ll leave the classification up to you) who have taken over the Safari Outpost station. Plenty of Marc Davis humor here. Gotta’ love the ape checking himself out in the mirror with his new hat:

Following up to my Wednesday WOW! post, I have a few more publicity stills taken before the park was open. From November 1954, you can see the construction of the Hippos at the Burbank Studio.

Also from November 1954 these two young ladies seem to be having fun with the giraffes from the African Veldt section:

If you look closely, you can see the tops of the Horse-Drawn Streetcars under construction:

And from one of the cheesecake shots posted Wednesday, here's a zoom-in closeup showing the hanging monkeys that were originally in the Ancient Shrine scene:

See more Disneyland Jungle Cruise photos at my website.

Great stuff as always; love the detail of the streetcar being built and the scruffy monkey.
