Submarine-mania!

Today seems as good as any to celebrate the long-gone Submarine Voyage attraction at Disneyland. To give you a feeling of what it was like to enter the submarine itself, here's a shot from October 1962. Feeling confined yet?

The Monorail provided this overhead shot from the same batch showing the Subs:

Sure wish the photographer had a steadier hand; would love a better look at these posters on the wall:

Going back to year one we have this August 1959 image, also taken from the Skyway:

How about a closer look at the Skyway Bucket?

Let's bring this post on home with a few shots from August 1970:

Check out the PeopleMover visible in the background:

A rare shot from liquid space!

November 1959: In Living Color, BONUS!

What a dolt I am. I scanned these so long ago, all I remembered thinking was wow...what a great batch! Then when I started posting these, all I could think of was, “I am extremely underwhelmed!” Today, I found out why. There was a whole batch of the best that I skipped over! Here they are, and I think you will agree that these are really some gems. The Major was right in thinking that there must be some exciting Tomorrowland images to check out, and here they are. First up is the Monsanto House of the Future, including a closer view to see what we REALLY want to see...the House itself.

Nearby in Central Plaza, the Keystone Kops are playing near the striped tent that housed the Edison Square display.

This previously posted Crane Bathroom exhibit shot features Scarf-gal, wishing she could be the hostess instead. I just learned the other day that Chevy Chase's grandfather owned Crane. Anyone else heard that before?

Back to the Submarine Voyage, a nice shot of the Skipjack:

For all you Monorail fans, here’s a crystal clear shot of the Blue Monorail, almost 50 years old now!

Scarf-gal is using the popcorn as an excuse to flirt with Popcorn-guy. Apparently Pegleg Pete gave her the brush the other day.

It may be drowing in the Rivers of America now, but in this 1959 shot, the Gullywhumper is ready for adventure!

Ah, the peaceful Indian Settlement along the Rivers of America.

Part 2 of “I Goofed” will be shown tomorrow. See more Disneyland photos at my website.

Disneyland in Focus: '59 & The Submarine Voyage, Pt. 3

One underwater shot, as we wrap up the '59 series today. The rest are just more technicolor eye candy for you to drool over.

This one is like going to Vegas with its sensory overload of attractions: The Skyway, Rocket to the Moon/Moonliner, Submarine Voyage, The Monorail

And for you nosey-noos, just a few conch shells on the rocks in the previous shot. Nothing to see here folks, just move along.

Today, the Submarine Voyage is drawing crowds again, this time themed to tie-into Pixar’s "Finding Nemo." It sure is good to have the lagoon moving again.
