Vintage Tomorrowland

You might think we’re stuck in May 1957 this week...and you could be right as far as this blog is concerned! This gentleman at the entrance to Tomorrowland is apparently blinded by the California sunshine. He should turn around and get some ice cream from that nice cart behind him. Note the state flags that are still at the entrance.



This second image was taken in the heart of vintage Tomorrowland, near the Rocket to the Moon attraction and the Flight Circle.



I often wonder (and muse on this blog) about where the photos now exist of the people holding cameras in these images from over sixty years ago!

Random Color Gems from the 1950's, Pt. 1

It's always a pleasant surprise when I realize that I have a batch of photos that I haven't published yet...especially as I begin to scrape the bottom of the barrel for new material!

Typical castle shot, but zooming in, it's fun to see the detail of the ice cream vendor (dressed like a White Wing) standing near the photo souvenir placard. When was the last time you got anything for 75¢ at Disneyland? Or anywhere else while we're at it?!?



The patchwork quilt is a fave part of Storybook Land for me; you can also see the Gazebo from Peter Pan Park near the boat.



This one is my favorite from today's bunch because the band sure looks like they are having fun. Great to see them integrating with the guests on the Teacup attraction. I wonder if Vesey joined in?

Early 1950’s Black & White, pt. 5: The Castle

Even though there are a few White Wings in the area, that ice cream cart looks like it's missing a cast member. Might be a good time to swipe a chocolate covered frozen banana outta' there!

White Wing has his back towards us...ok, time to move in fast! I can almost taste that frozen treat now.

Disneyland, October ’59, Pt. 5

Today we enter the gates of Frontierland, which is probably one of the biggest lands in the park. It does seem a little funny to view the little girl in the pink poodle skirt standing near the rustic gated entrance. Slide #2 shows the Floating Wedding Cake, aka The Mark Twain, with the Columbia squeaking by on the left.





The Main Street-styled Ice Cream Vendor seems a little out-of-place next to the old-fashioned Columbia; however, at 15¢ per treat, I won’t complain!





Love the way this cast member on the Columbia rigging is silouhetted through the California sunshine:



I am a huge Rainbow Ridge fan, and so glad that most of these buildings still survive today.
