A Jester in Tomorrowland

That’s right; a Jester on a unicycle is riding through Tomorrowland at Disneyland, circa July 1964. The most famous unicycler at Disneyland was Christopher Fair. Alas, he left in 1963, so this is obviously his replacement.

The same guy (and outfit) circa 1965 in Fantasyland, which is where you most typically saw this character:

Christopher Fair, circa July 1963:

The location of the first image is near the entrance of Tomorrowland, where the state flags once resided. Here’s the one for New York, from roughly 1956/1957:

Vintage Tomorrowland

You might think we’re stuck in May 1957 this week...and you could be right as far as this blog is concerned! This gentleman at the entrance to Tomorrowland is apparently blinded by the California sunshine. He should turn around and get some ice cream from that nice cart behind him. Note the state flags that are still at the entrance.

This second image was taken in the heart of vintage Tomorrowland, near the Rocket to the Moon attraction and the Flight Circle.

I often wonder (and muse on this blog) about where the photos now exist of the people holding cameras in these images from over sixty years ago!

For KS: this closeup of the ticket booth. Still pretty fuzzy.

Sax on a Tuesday

Today you get a double-shot of the Keystone Kops at Disneyland, best known for entertaining the guests with their saxophones. First image is from March 1958, showing two Kops entering Central Plaza with the Tomorrowland entrance behind them.

Seven years later they're still at it in this May 1965 image:

I see a tenor and baritone and one alto sax; can't tell what the partially hidden Kop is playing.

Trip to Disneyland: April 1965, Pt. 3

Continuing up Main Street, our little darlings stop in Central Plaza at the Carnation Gardens just long enough for a refreshing beverage. The little girl looks like she’s ready for an audition as a Matterhorn Cast Member.

The children seem totally unenthralled with the Keystone Kop Saxophone Quartet; but that doesn’t stop these fellers from playing!

Moving closer to Tomorrowland, the family stops at the Monsanto House of the Future and then hangs out at the exit area. I will refrain from making the obvious crude comment about the oddshaped "chairs."

Dear readers, consider today a cliffhanger as I leave you with two images at the entrance to Tomorrowland. You’ll have to wait until Friday to see where the family goes, as Thursday’s blog will take a quick detour. In shot #1, the little girl has traded in her Matterhorn outfit back to the one that we saw the other day which might be appropriate for the Tiki Room.

Anybody care for a poster?

Disneyland in Glorious B&W, Pt. 8

Welcome to the future! Actually Tomorrowland, to be more specific. This pretty young lass got to pose with the Kaiser Aluminum Space Man right at the Tomorrowland entrance.

Shot #2 shows the entry area for the 20K Exhibit; compare with the color photo from another set of photos.

And check out these two stylish misses, enjoying the sites of Tomorrowland, especially that cool Rocket to the Moon attraction over yonder!

House of the Future, 1965

It’s 1965, the year of the Tencennial, and this gent is standing in front of the Monsanto House of the Future, with 2 of the state flagpoles visible. The flags were a nice touch to the entrance of Tomorrowland, adding to the type of Fair Exhibit atmosphere that originally permeated Tomorrowland. You can check out more House of the Future photos on my regular website.
