Spring 1975, Pt. 2

Here we are on Main Street, surrounded by 70’s "fashion." And yes, the quotes are intentional. Shot #1 shows the Flower Market on West Center Street. Hey - I recognize that brightly colored paper bag that Jean-Jacket-Girl is carrying! I used to have one as a kid that I kept as a souvenir...it is now decomposing somewhere in a landfill. Moving down a little further on Main Street, we have a great view of the Sunkist Citrus House; anybody for some fresh oj? And please don’t miss the romantic young couple on the left, promising to return to this very spot every year for the rest of their lives.

Double Date @ Disneyland, November 1965

This series of slides from November 1965 features what appears to be two adult couples enjoying a few days at Disneyland. Slide #1 is at the Monorail Station at the Disneyland Hotel. View #2 is none other than Town Square, our first view of the inside of Disneyland. Our intrepid photographer seemed to have a difficult time getting our subjects in focus, but fortunately for us Disney Geeks, the park is razor sharp each time! The two ladies look like they could be my Italian Aunts.



Continuing up Main Street we reach Center Street with the Horse-Drawn Streetcar plodding along. I have included a closeup of the art cart on East Center Street, right near the Hallmark Store.





Across the way on West Center Street, the ladies are checking out the latest in plastic flora. It’s difficult to find just the right bouquet that looks good next to the plastic slip-covered sofa. Our slippery duo here seems to have managed to stay out of focus again.



Further up the street we come to Central Plaza, for this delightful photo of a...lamppost. Okay, our photographer never professed to being Ansel Adams.



We finally come to the Castle. One of our gals is up by the moat already on the right hand side...just squint a little and you can see her in the black dress.



Once again, the focus of the couples is not the issue...get the castle! Here’s one of the couples, and our gal who was seen previously near the moat and drawbridge.

This Would Not Happen Today!

Here’s a seemingly innocent September 1967 view of the East Side of Main Street. Nothing unusual going on here, keep moving along folks, just some guy leaning on a tree, trying to hit on a gal and an unattended White Wing Trash Cart...until you zoom into the window of the Hallmark Store. A window display featuring the Charles Schulz Peanuts character Snoopy?!? What’s next? Shrek in Fantasyland?!?



Today, the person who put that window display together would probably be fired. Or at the very least, forced to push a double-wide stroller around the park all day. Here’s another 9/67 Main Street shot, showing my fave MS vehicle, The Omnibus.

Madge & Mildred at the Parade, 1975

Today’s date will always stand out in my mind, and I hope that everyone will take time to reflect on what happened 6 years ago and put into perspective what really matters in life. Now, back to the blog. Today’s slides are marked January 1975 (but most likely taken in December) and they begin with our 2 heroines, Madge & Mildred. You just know that Mildred is looking for her lighter...dagnabbit where is that durn thing? Ah forget it...we’ll just watch the parade. Slide 2 is most likely these gents warming up for a few bars of “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.”



These heralder’s uniforms are still being used in the Candlelight Processional, albeit with a few modifications:
