Carnation on Main Street

A few previously unpublished shots of the Carnation Truck on Main Street. This 1950s gentleman sure is looking like a poser; best part of this detailed view is the cast member in costume.



A slightly blurry image from Spring 1957. Kids sure loved to posed on that Truck!



This November 1967 shot gives a nice overall view of what the exterior looked like.



Jumping forward to the present, the name Carnation is still on the building, but I believe the sponsorship is long gone.



Instead, it's just named after the flower.



The interior:



Long-time Disneyland employee Oscar Martinez can still be seen here, greeting guests and kindly posing for photos.



I believe he will hit the 60 year mark this December.

60th Anniversary Trip, Pt. 1

Going to the Park less often is working out well for me; now I actually look forward to going, and find that I enjoy myself more. Disneyland's 60th Anniversary Celebration has begun to be rolled out, and the festive blue bunting can be seen almost everywhere.



The plastic jewels are just a little much, but considering Disneyland is theme park of fantasy, I should probably let it go...



Walking down Main Street, U.S.A. I saw Oscar Martinez, the longest tenured employee in the Park (December 29, 1956), standing in front of the Carnation Cafe:



The Partners statue in Central Plaza with the newly painted and bunted Castle in the background.



Closer…



And here it is…again, a little overdone for my tastes. Keep the bunting, lose the faux "jewels", plastic caps, etc. and it would be markedly improved.



The back of the Castle has yet to be bedazzled.



As you already know, the Mansion was my first destination of the morning. That didn't stop me from taking photos of the Rivers of America on the way!



In New Orleans Square, Pandora Jewelry is a new vendor:



Hmmmm…don't think I'll be spending any money (or time) in here.

Mickey's Halloween Party: The Grand Finale

Today marks the last of my Mickey's Halloween Party photos; still more trip report photos for next week though!

These gigantic Mickeys are all over the park;

Nice to see the Ray Bradbury Tree in Frontierland continues its annual tradition of being decorated for Halloween:



This talking scarecrow in Frontierland is just one step away from a creepy clown.



No dessert was had at the Plaza Inn, so a sugary treat needed to be found. The Mint Julep Bar in New Orleans Square was the perfect place for this.



A tasty mint julep (love those maraschino cherries!)…



and a sack of piping hot Pumpkin Beignets.



Heading back to Central Plaza for the Halloween Fireworks, I snapped a few of the Adventureland attractions, specially lit for the evening.



Even the Treehouse looks scary at night!



Unlike previous years, we didn't fight too hard to get the perfect viewing spot for the Fireworks. If you go, you really need to be DEAD (pun intended) center in order to see the special lighting on the castle and the large round orbs that surround the castle. We were at the left side, which totally obliterated the view to just about anything other than the fireworks themselves. At least we could still see Zero flying over the Castle!













The beignets were delish, but when we saw just how empty The Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlour was, we could not resist. This just never happens!



The Firehouse Dalmatian Mint Sundae is a Daveland favorite (more maraschino cherries!):



The Carnation Café was closed, so I took advantage of this occasion to snap some interior shots, including this wide panorama photo:





Previously, we had missed the Town Square Disney Villains finale, so we made a point to catch it this time.



Lady Tremain and her evil daughters were ablaze!
