The Fantasyland Viewliner Station

This July 1957 image was taken from a Skyway bucket, soaring over Fantasyland. Zooming in, we can see the Fantasyland Viewliner station, which was only about a month old at the time. Unfortunately, the Viewliner has not arrived yet! Running parallel on the tracks at this point is the C.K. Holliday engine from the Disneyland Railroad:

Also in the frame you can see the Autopia attraction and two vehicles from the Motor Boat Cruise attraction:

The most amazing part of this shot is how barren the landscape is beyond the berm.

See more vintage Disneyland Viewliner photos at my main website.

Back when Retlaw 2 was a no-kidding freight train, standing room only. Note that there are only four people total in the open gondola cars. They look great here, but it's obvious why they were rebuilt with awnings and seats

Thanks, Dave. This is a real treat.

Chuck beat me to it. My remark is half about "you'd never see that now" in regards to the safety concerns of riding in an open air cargo car like that. Super cool, and fun for those who can be responsible but society has proven otherwise thus far. The other half has to do with riding in railway cattle cars just a decade after the end of WW2. I'm thinking even in 1955 this may have been something to rethink back then. Bad memories.

The lack of vegetation is staggering!

Vegetation?! Madame, this is the world's finest "Senecio vulgaris" as indicated by the little green signs.
