Shoe Shine in New Orleans, August 1966

These early images from New Orleans Square show a little shoe-shine action (like this would ever happen today...) and some live music.

Wonder if the shoe shine kids went away because it was considered degrading, or because men generally stopped wearing shoes that needed polishing (sneakers or whatever)....

The shoe shine boys are still there, but do not shine shoes but rather entertain by tap dancing. I believe this street entertainment is a New Orleans tradition that Walt wanted to recreate to make his New Orleans just as fun and entertaining as the real New Orleans.
