GTG For The Last-Minute Shopper

It’s that time of year that stresses so many of us out: LAST-MINUTE SHOPPING! It can happen to the best of us; you forget one person on your list and EEK! Well dear readers, I have the answer! Shannon Laskey’s Going to Guides Etsy Shop is the one-stop shop for all you Disney Park fanatics out there. Today’s post features some of the coolest items you’ll find there: IF YOU HURRY! Yes, some items could be limited in stock.

1. Silhouette Studio Ornament Each silhouette in the window is an image of an actual vintage silhouette (spotted on EBay) made at Disneyland’s Silhouette Studio. Comes in handsome red box!

2) Postcard Pals Packs Check out this NEW Modern Disneyland Postcard set and the Vintage Postcard set (featuring some shots from the Daveland collection):

3) All Aboard Fandana This seems like a good one for Christmas since it’s red! Shannon knows of at least two Cast Members who wear this to work! This photo by Brent Cox shows off the Fandana nicely:

Check out what Cast Member Mark Gonzales is wearing in this photo from the OC Register:

4) Haunted Glow Fandana This is Shannon’s newest Fandana (and my favorite!) and first to be themed to Magic Kingdom and first to glow in the dark!

5) I Like Disneyland sticker People LOVE this! Shannon has a bumper sticker size and a mini size that can be chosen in a Mix n’ Match 4 stickers set.

And then for BOOKS, Shannon’s shipping them until this Tuesday if people want to order directly. Amazon has them in stock too, though quantities are low.

Happy Shopping!

The Return of Fandana Friday!

The mail yielded an expected bundle of joy...and an unexpected one, too. When I checked out Shannon Laskey’s Etsy store, I noticed she had Haunted Mansion fandanas…in the appropriate purple color! HAD to get one. If I have to mask, at least it can be fun and stylish! When the package arrived, Shannon had written “Why is this so lumpy?!” in her cool signature handwriting. PS: I LOVE getting packages from Shannon; to say she makes packaging fun and creative is an understatement. This lady radiates joy!

Inside was the fandana, and it was just as cool as I thought it would be!

Shannon adds plenty of little extras and stories with her products:

Just look at the inspection tag; she knows her Disneyland stuff backwards and forwards! I will have so much fun looking over every little Mansion detail captured on this fandana.

Back to lumpy…Shannon also included (as a bonus to me) this Park Pair Up card game. As she explained:

When we went into shelter-in-place mode in March I started creating this card game and it debuted on Black Friday in my Etsy Store.

As the saying goes, when life gives you lemons, make a cool card game!

The premise: pair up cards inspired by the happiest and most magical theme parks! But, not so fast, there are Tricky cards along the way. Try to foil your opponents and be the first one to reach 150 points. Do that you’ll win the Magic Key to the Kingdom!

Not sure you can handle the brainpower to figure out a new game? Shannon has you covered with a youtube instructional video (she covers ALL the bases).

And yes, there’s an actual Magic Key that comes with the set!

Fandana Friday!

I don’t do it often, but today I am doing a few promotional plugs. I only do these for people/companies I actually know and believe in, so you better believe I stand behind whatever I endorse on here. First up is this INCREDIBLE fandana from Shannon Laskey over at Going to Guides.

Her trio of guides to visiting the Disney theme parks are sprinkled with photos from yours truly.

I had the pleasure of meeting Shannon in person previously at the Chateau Marmont in a completely unplanned “the universe is making things happen” serendipity moment. I couldn’t have planned it any better! To say that I adore Shannon is putting it mildly.

Not only is she just about the nicest person I have ever met, she is creative as heck (in a good way, not a really bad craft store way) and an entrepreneur who completely “gets” the vintage vibe of Disneyland. Back to the fandana that she has released. Perfect for wearing in public and yes, I have done so and gotten RAVES from those who have seen it.

But Dave…where can I get my very own fandana? Stop whining and I’ll tell ya! On Shannon’s etsy site; here’s the direct link to the 64th Anniversary Fandana pack. And if you want some really unique (in a good way) holiday gifts/stocking stuffers, Shannon’s Etsy shop is the place to go.

One more worthy plug for today…

For those of you who are neon fanatics like me, I received a plea from Eric Lynxwiler (author, historian, tour guide supreme, and neon expert) to promote the fundraiser for the Museum of Neon Art (MONA) in Glendale.

Museums have been hit hard by COVID and most have been forced to close their doors to guests. MONA is now raising funds to build a “Sign Garden,” an iconic one-of-a-kind Los Angeles County landmark and outdoor exhibition space located in the former parking lot of the Museum. I love how creative people/organizations are finding ways to stay solvent and pivot in these turbulent times. Unlike a certain “museum” in Las Vegas that allows their vintage neon signs to rot and rarely restores them (while charging exorbitant fees for the public to see them), MONA actually sinks money into restoring and keeping these historical vintage gems available for people to marvel over, like this one from Grauman’s Chinese Theatre:
