Richfield: Years Ahead

With the recent announcement by Governor Newsom that all California vehicles must be zero emissions by 2035, will the Autopia adapt or be removed? This 1956 image yields a few nice detailed views, including the Richfield sponsor sign. Years ahead? In 1966, Richfield merged with the Atlantic Refining Company to form ARCO; apparently the deal was sealed over a fishing trip!

This portion of the photo shows a “backstage” repair area. I am sure these vehicles were a pain in the patootie to keep running, as they took a lot of abuse from the guests.

Anyone know what kind of car(s) Governor Newsom drives and what his carbon footprint is? Asking for a friend…

Oom Pah Pah in Fantasyland

A little Oom Pah Pah to start off the work week courtesy of Disneyland's Matterhorn Band. This August 1962 image shows the positioned between the Matterhorn and the Fantasyland Autopia.

The two boys in this detailed view look mesmerized.

Here's a previously posted November 1963 shot of Fred Burri, Disneyland Yodeler:

And a July 1968 of the Band outside the back of the Castle:

Autopia Eagle

I’m back, and starting off with a shot of the Autopia Eagle, back when it was sponsored by Richfield. This one is from September, 1966.

The 2nd photo from 1960 shows the now defunct Livery Stable vehicle. I truly enjoy the variety of transportation on Main Street that takes you from one end to the other (internet buzz for DCA is that they are going to transform the entrance to be more like Main Street with various vehicles to whisk guests away to each section. Sounds cool to me). Here’s the same family getting ready to board the train at the Main Street Train Station:
