Disneyland in 3D: June 26, 1966, Pt. 2

Part 2 of June 26, 1966 at Disneyland begins with the Crystal Arcade on Main Street, U.S.A. For these, I have included a flat version which melds the left and the right view, providing a slightly wider frame.

I do love looking inside the shops, especially since we rarely see vintage interiors. Note the window display on the right for the Upjohn Pharmacy, which was next door.

One of the Emporium window displays, also seen in yesterday’s photo:

Across the street you can see Lon Chaney in “The Phantom of the Opera,” playing at the Main Street Cinema:

Definitely summertime, as the patriotic bunting appears on the lightpost at left:

If you’re wondering about the name Edgar Kennedy on the right side of the marquee, he was typically in the Keystone Kops comedies that were featured here, too.

As we approach East Center, we come to the Swift Market House:

See anything you’d be interested in purchasing? Note the old fashioned wallphone visible in the window on the right:

The Art Festival is going on in the East Center Street alleyway:

Guests were once able to have their portraits sketched here. Below are some samples:

The Carnation Company borders on West Center Street:

I could sure go for a sundae right now! It’s so fantastic to be able to see the employees inside the lit interiors at night.

How about a fake bouquet from the West Center Street Flower Market?

$1.25 and 80¢? Not bad!

Still more on the way!

Dave, all of these 3D pictures are FANTASTIC! I especially love the Flower Market...I remember my early trips to Disneyland in the 1960s and it's fun to imagine stepping into these pictures. Thank you for sharing these, and I'm looking forward to seeing the rest!

I can't get over what a good resolution you got off of these. I have so many family pictures from the 60's that couldn't be helped regardless the amount of digital cleanup. These shots look like they're from a postcard rack. Interesting to see Carnation without the red/white bulbs on. I'm always amazed when I see an occasional shot of the Phantom character roaming the street in front of the theater. Those shots are rare, but he existed. Why? Licensing? I can only assume Walt wanted one more jab at Carl Laemmle.

Hi Sue - It was great to rediscover this batch and put them together as animated gifs so that they could be viewed in all their 3D glory!

Bryan - Slides/negatives make a huge difference vs. prints. On the Phantom, it was easier in those days to get away with that kind of thing.

An...Main Street in the 60s. This batch makes the place come to life....along with the 3D effects. It's been some time, (like 60+ years, oh my) but I recall that there were several old crank phones installed in the Market House. One could pick up the receiver and listen to a conversation (recorded) as if you were on a party line. And the last shot with what was then the ubiquitous cash register. A museum piece these days. Who didn't have their portrait done back then? I have tucked away in parent's mementos, a picture of me done in the latter '50s. I was 7-8 years old at the time. Have a CM friend who was one of the artists in the 70s. Memories. KS
