Panic on POTC!

It began like most journeys through the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at Disneyland. Except this time we had a VIP Tour Guide. And we entered through the exit. And we immediately got onto the attraction. Other than that it was the same. We got in our boat and sailed through the Blue Bayou, passing the Restaurant at the beginning of their lunch rush.

Everyone sang "Yo Ho" as we viewed the vignettes of the grotto.

Worst case of heartburn. He must have eaten at Goofy's Kitchen.

The Wicked Wench:

How many of you notice these heads popping up with the canon fire?

Poor Carlos. It's bad enough that he has a wife badly in need of dental work, but now he wishes he had paid attention in swim class.

Plenty of characters along the way to see, such as this Jack Sparrow animatronic at the Costurera:

and the onlookers for the wench auction.

Sorry, no Red Headed Wench shots this time; I was on the wrong side of the boat for that.

Always great to see this guy. "Here kitty, kitty…"

sounds like my next door neighbors at 3am. For realz.

Once known as the Hairy Legged Pirate, this guy has obviously fell victim to manscaping by Imaginears.

The attraction was coming to a close as we approached the jail. A skeleton…

3 nasty dudes…

another three trying to get out…

The chair and rafters overhead should have warned me that there was trouble up ahead.

When I saw the lady in the boat ahead of me stand up, I assumed she was a cast member. Then I saw what she was wearing and knew that she wasn't. Then I figured she was looking for a quick photo opportunity as she perilously straddled the boat and the "shore."

Wrong on all counts. She was having a panic attack, as she told everyone in the boats who cared to listen as they passed her by. Why she would choose to exit the boat just as it was about to take her to dry land is beyond my comprehension.

You won't find her on the map at the end, but she should be on there.

Hard to tell what you might find at the Park these days.

60th Anniversary Trip, Pt. 2: POTC

Welcome to the Blue Bayou, where every journey through Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean attraction begins. It's also a chance to see the Blue Bayou Restaurant, where those who plan ahead and make reservations MIGHT have a chance of getting a table!

Back to the Bayou, I was pretty happy with how the shots from this particular journey turned out.

I think our boat was going slower than usual, which helps tremendously when shooting in low light situations.

Next thing I knew, we had already descended into the magical blue depths of the Pirate Grotto.

Look at this poor sap with the sword in his back; he's not telling any tales.

A closeup:

The Captain apparently lived long enough to enjoy his riches.

What a treasure room.

Zooming in for a better look:

The Wicked Wench:

I was finally able to get a decent shot of the projection effect of a duel on the fortress' wall:

My VERY favorite character in this attraction, the Red Headed Wench.

You knew I was going to give you a closeup of her:

The lusty onlookers across the way…

and on the bridge overhead:

Further down the way we encounter more lusty (and blitzed) pirates.

Here kitty kitty kitty. Since the men chasing women scenes are politically incorrect, how about one of a dog chasing a cat?

The Merry Minstrels, singing X Atencio's famous tune:

One of the many classic Marc Davis gags:

Another favorite character, the hairy-legged pirate:

You can't help but feel sorry for this trio of imprisoned saps:

Watch out for shots overhead:

Jack Sparrow, attempting to broaden the appeal of this attraction (as if it really needed it).

The final image is (of course) the exit:

Was that enough photos for one post? TOMORROW: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad!

Aaaaaaargh your way over to my main website for more POTC photos.

Yo Ho Yo Ho, Pt. 2

Welcome back to pt. 2 of my January 2015 trip through the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at Disneyland. We begin at the battle involving the Wicked Wench!

I love the smokey smell in this seemingly HUUUUUGE area. You feel like you are drifting through the middle of the ocean, with canon fire volleying overhead.

Unlike other ride throughs, I pretty much stuck to the scenery on my side of the boat, rather than frantically attempting to shoot each side. That can really get exhausting. Typically, I sit on the left side of the boat because the Wench Auction is my very favorite scene. No, I am not into the selling of women, but I do think the Red-Headed gal is a hoot and a half. She stands out against the homely maidens lined up before her.

The Auctioneer is probably one of my very favorite animatronics; his movements are so fluid and his face is the epitome of Marc Davis' style.

No donkey was visible in this tableau of three minstrels and their howling dog. Hopefully the donkey was just getting cleaned up backstage.

The Hat Thief was doing his best to balance the stack on his head; always good to see him in this attraction. Of all the figures, he seems to be absent the most.

A semi-decent shot of the hairy-legged pirate. He always brings a smile to my face.

They may be boring compared to the other scenes, but nevertheless I decided to take some shots of the collapsing structures and burning embers that are between the jail and dueling pistol scenes.

Another character that bears the hallmarks of Marc Davis' style.

It's not easy catching this pirate's pistol when it fires!

Last and in my opinion the very least…

Sure, it looks like Johnny Depp, but this scene is still a snoozer.

A closeup of the crest hanging on the back wall:

My apologies to the scenery on the RIGHT side of the boat, since it got the shaft in this post.
