Balloons in Fantasyland, May 1958

I really fell in love with this vintage image from May 1958. The joy on the guest's faces (at least on two out of three) as they hold the Disneyland balloon seller's goods. Today, he might get fired for this.

The light fixture looks vintage, but not the same one from 1958. And the handpainted details have been replaced with a less than thrilling grapevine.

The Return of Christopher Fair

It's been almost 3 years since jester/unicycler Christopher Fair has appeared at Daveland. Today's July 1963 image shows him cruising by the Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship in Fantasyland. Mercifully, the stroller on the left-hand side of the shot is almost completely out of view. Phew.

Here's a closeup of the stick he's holding; the mini-jester head on top is reminiscent of the Jack-in-the-box car antenna toppers. Which came first?!?



1963 was the last year that Fair worked at Disneyland. Here's a previously posted image of him from June 1963:

1960’s BW: Fantasyland Abbondanza!

Fantasyland Noir from May 15, 1962! Shot #1 gives a good overview of the courtyard area; I have included a detail shot of the Fantasyland Theater, complete with ticket booth. Ticket booth? I bought my ticket at the entrance? I don’t need no stinkin’ ticket!

Looks like a few lettermen are visiting the park today.



Dumbo is right in the middle of things as the original Skyway buckets floats overhead.



Uh-oh...looks like Dumbo is down...there’s a cast member apparently attempting to fix things.



The Teacups appear to be down for the count, too; let’s head over to Mr. Toad instead!



It appears to be a miserable rainy day. Not sure if I want to ride around Storybook Land and get drizzled on!



Howzabout we hop on the Skyway in Fantasyland and go over to Tomorrowland. Maybe it will be brighter over there! Detail of the Kodak picture spot and ticket booth included:
