The Adventureland Bazaar was a unique shopping experience at Disneyland when it first opened. “You may browse in tropical bazaars examing unique imports” was the language used in the 1956 booklet. I wonder if there were tariffs? Below, you can see movie star Jayne Mansfield perusing the goods with her husband, bodybuilder Mickey Hargitay, just barely in the frame at left.

Below is a previously posted shot of the two; Mickey made it into this one!

The following two images show a family, also inside the Bazaar, figuring out what to buy.

I’m sure these two gals were saying, “Hey, if it’s good enough for Jayne Mansfield, it’s good enough for us!”

Today, on the Disneyland website, the Bazaar’s description, listed under the heading, “Mysterious Merchandise” reads as follows: “Unearth a treasure trove of apparel, accessories, gifts and more at this eclectic emporium.” Sounds like cheap crap to me; I wonder if Jayne would still shop there?

Dave-
'Eclectic' is the new 'unique', regrettably-!
I didn't understand or appreciate it back when I was a kid, but that shop ( and a couple in NOS ) were stocked with some real oddities. As child I thought "who would come here to buy this?" but as a grown up, I see it differently. Rolly sure did a job on that store's redux. I actually have one of the curios from that shop ( circa 1964 ) thanks to a great-uncle who visited at that time. Sadly you are spot-on with today's shop. No matter what the description says, it amounts to "branded merch", the same as you'll find in every store throughout the park.
