Monday Moments with Mr. Lincoln

In honor of President's Day, today's post will feature some previously unreleased shots of Abe from a December 2015 visit to the Park. Yes. I am behind. What's new?!?



Shots #2 and #3 are from the slideshow of paintings that depict the life of our 16th President.



My wide angle lens gives a complete view of the stage, Abe, and props. Typically I am focused on getting as close to Mr. Lincoln as possible.







I love the lighting effects towards the end, which completely change the mood of the scene as the patriotic music in the background begins.



Sunrise or sunset?



The background showing the Lincoln Memorial statue as Abe sits calmly in his chair. Didja' know...Daniel Chester French was the designer of the statue which was carved by the Piccirilli Brothers, a family of renowned marble carvers and sculptors that lived in the Bronx.

Out of Scale and RIP Batgirl

It is fairly common knowledge to most of us Disneyland geeks that forced perspective makes the Castle and Main Street seem bigger than they are. The little town of Rainbow Ridge typically gets the shaft in these discussions. Today's image from May 1963 shows just how effective this little trick works, thanks to a worker who was captured standing next to the buildings of Walt's mining town in Frontierland.



It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Yvonne Craig on Monday at the age of 78.



She is definitely best known as the purple clad Batgirl from the 1966 TV series, "Batman." Here she is modeling the original version of her mask that was used in the not often seen test reel.



Craig was the perfect choice for the role; she did a lot with very little, as her character was typically relegated to damsel in distress status. NOBODY who could do a high-kick like Craig would every REALLY be in distress.

1960's Duo

It's just a quickie for today, as it is definitely a TGIF day for me. This little boy is obviously a Civil War buff (and a northerner at that, judging by his hat!). This photo is undated, but must be somewhere between 1963-1964, as The Mickey Mouse Club is still headquartered in the Opera House.
