Disneyland Population: The Boring Conclusion

The Disneyland “population” (aka guest count) reached 300,000,000 in October 1995 (as seen in my previous post). The number by Spring 2000 on the Main Street Train station sign increased to 400,000,000:



The Park was celebrating its 45th Anniversary!



The numbers remained the same in April 2002:





Still 450,000,000 in January 2003:





Half a million by May 2004!





And here’s where you’re going to need the NoDoz caffeine pills. June 2005: 500,000,000



…just peaking out behind the train:



October 2006: 500,000,000. Happy Halloween!



January 2007: 500,000,000. Happy New Year!





May 2008: 500,000,000



Does an animated gif from September 2009 help the boredom? At least the train is moving, even if the number isn’t.



May 2012: 500,000,000



How is it possible that the Disneyland Population was stagnant for eight years?



FINALLY! In this June 2013 image, the number jumped to 650,000,000:





Sorry folks, it was just a temporary burst of activity. Here we go again: May 2015: 650,000,000.

According to inside sources, the number is still at 650 million as of January 2024. Maybe if somebody gets back on the job I’ll return to the Park. It could happen!

Disneyland Population, Pt. 3

The “population” (aka guest count) at Disneyland hit 75,000,000 in September 1969 (as seen in my previous post). The number by November 1970 on the Main Street Train station had increased to 95,000,000:



For the 100,000,000 mark, Valerie Suldo was the honored guest to achieve that milestone number, shown with Disneyland Marketing Director Jack Lindquist on June 17, 1971:



A color shot from July 1972, still at 100,000,000.



The lady in front of the Mickey floral looks like she could have been the SNL Church Lady’s long-lost twin.



December 1976 saw an increase up to 150,000,000 along with another change from my previous photos; the clock that once said Timex was now sponsored by Elgin:



Something else you may notice is the removal of the Santa Fe logo from the station.



November 1978: 157,000,000





April 1980 saw the number soar to 175,000,000:



Note the blue and white bunting and stripes on the train to commemorate Disneyland’s 25th Anniversary.



August 1980: 192,000,000



August 1985: 250,000,000



June 1987: 263,000,000





The clock sponsorship changed once again; this time to Lorus:



May 1993 marks the first shot in this series that came from MY camera (and includes me). Population is now up to 300,000,000.





In October 1995 the number was still frozen at 300,000,000 in this photo that I snapped:



…AND the sponsorship of the clock was gonzo.

Disneyland Population, Part 2

The “population” (aka guest count) at Disneyland hit 18,000,000 in October 1959 (as seen in my previous post). The number for March 1960 on the Main Street Train station was still the same:



Even as late as July 1960 in this FABULOUS shot taken by a vintage photographer after my own heart. Oh, the details! 



One month later in August 1960, the number jumped to 22,000,000, as seen in this shot that features Walt Disney himself.



This photo op was to commemorate the 10 millionth passenger on the Disneyland Railroad.



Still at 22,000,000 in October 1960:





Another leap of 4,000,000 can be seen in June 1961:





Still holding tight in the new year, January 1962:



…and how about those ticket prices! Keep in mind that this was before one price allowed you to ride all the attractions, and that ticket books were necessary.



Kowabunga! In May 1962, the population umber hit 30,000,000:





From October 1962:



My photos in between are too blurry to discern the number, but this crystal clear shot from January 1964 shows a leap to 33,000,000:





The 10th anniversary of Disneyland saw the number leap to 46,000,000 as seen in this April 1965 genuine FauxD© photo:

A special sign hung over the regular marquee to commemorate the grand occasion, along with boxes of balloons along the tracks.
