Entrance to Disneyland

Hope you can stand a few more vintage Disneyland entrance shots! First one is from March 1958. What else can be said about those crazy 1950's ticket prices?

This closeup from the same shot appears to be a Guidebook Salesman, or maybe just a kid dressed up fancy in a vest:

This Spring 1957 shot shows the exit, with the Disneyland Railroad's E.P. Ripley looming overheard. I sure do miss riding the trains.

This last shot is one I captured last May; so much more high tech and slick looking compared to its 1950's predecessors.

Leaving Disneyland, November 1971

A family poses at the exit of Disneyland, November 1971. Get a load of these 1970's prices; only $4.95 to get into the park! Of course, that still doesn't account for the money necessary to buy tickets to ride each attraction. I'll bet it's still cheaper than today's all inclusive entrance fee of $150!

Meeting at Ghost Town Grill

A few photos from my lunch at Knott's Berry Farm's Ghost Town Grill. The red-eyed ravens were perched by the restaurant's sign as part of the Knott's Scary Farm overlay.

The menu; what would you care to order?

One of the very cool murals inside the restaurant that first opened in 1946:

A panoramic view of the same mural:

You know me and light fixtures; I'm obsessed.

I love how the wagon has been incorporated into the order/serving window:

The mural above shows a covered wagon camp:

One of the cozy booths:

Vintage looking Halloween decor (including muslin cobwebs) adorned the interior:

The Boysenberry Shake that I ordered was tasty!

The Sourdough Frisco Burger hit the spot. Hazel, our waitress, made sure I cleaned my plate.

My lunch companions included Ken Stack (be sure to check out his Liberty Ranch Facebook page on amusement parks), OC Historians Phil Brigandi, Stephanie George, and Chris Jepsen. On the far right is Knott's legend John Waite (more on him in future posts!).

After lunch, we rode a few of the Knott's Berry Farm classic attractions, which will be featured here soon!

For Ken, from yesterday's post, here's a closeup of the Sierra Tower of the Disneyland Hotel:

For Cox Pilot - is this the area you thought was the Harbor Drive sign? Sorry there's not more detail!

Good Night, Until We Meet Again

Who would bother taking a photo of the Exit Turnstiles at Disneyland? At night? Apparently this July 1968 photographer bothered, and I'm so glad he/she did. Leaving the park is always such a dilemma. I rarely want to go back to "the real world," even though my tired aching feet say otherwise. I often stall on Main Street and think of one last photo I should take before I leave.

Don't forget that hand stamp before you leave!

For some reason, this image made me think of the Lawrence Welk song "Adios, Au Revoir, Auf Wiedersehen" that was played at the end of every show.
