Tencennial: Fantasyland

Today’s Tencennial tour includes Casey Junior and Storybook Land. The Casey Junior train is chugging along, with life beyond the berm visible in this shot from the Skyway.

This Skyway shot shows once again that Monstro was black, not blue.

And what photo tour of Storybook Land would be complete without a shot of Cinderella’s Castle? Certainly not this one!

Tomorrow’s installment will be Tomorrowland, and then Tuesday will be the last one of this series, Town Square. I am also going to include a few pics from trip to Disneyland on Saturday to pickup Olszewski’s newest release. He also displayed his upcoming release for November, the Peter Pan attraction:

The detail on these is amazing; even the mural and weather vanes are part of it. Overall, had a really nice day in the park. Got to see Queenie in the Court of Angels:

The Riverbelle Terrace is still under construction:

As is the Fort Wilderness area; I am happy that they are using actual wood for the Fort, however, it really looks too perfect in comparison to the hand-hewn look of the original:

Tencennial: The Jungle Cruise finale

It’s Sunday, and I am finishing up the JC section of the Tencennial with a somewhat lackluster finish. 2 from the hippo pool, 1 angry native, and a return to civilization. That pretty much sums it up!

Stay tuned for an amazing trip to Fantasyland tomorrow!

Tencennial: The Jungle Cruise

We have just left Frontierland and are now in the heart of Adventureland, entering the World Famous Jungle Cruise. It looks like our boat is the Orinoco Adventuress. Now we are entering the Ancient Shrine; beware of Spiders!

Here is the Elephant Pool, with all the humor you’d expect from a Marc Davis scene:

And what trip to the JC would be complete without a view of the “back” side of water (yes, I realize this view is from the front).

Ah, The African Veldt; another area for the genius of Davis (refering to the poor gents up the tree):

And so ends today’s trip back to the Tencennial. Have no fear; there is still more to come. See more vintage (and current) Disneyland Jungle Cruise photos on my regular website.

Tencennial: Go West Young Man! Pt. 2

First off, I want to begin with a plug for all you Golden Horseshoe fans; there will be a GH reunion show in Anaheim next March; tickets are available now, and I would suggest you act quickly. Wally Boag, Betty Taylor, and other original cast members will be performing. Back to the regularly scheduled Tencennial broadcast, we are still in Frontierland, finishing out this section of our visit with some more Rivers of America photos. The Indian Burial photos always creep me out, but I still think it was waaaay cool of Walt to include this along the river.

Next up is a view of the Indian Village along the river, which is actually still there today, although modified.

And 2 shots of the infamous Burning Cabin, which has gone condo recently. Well, maybe not condo, but it’s still purty durn civilized in comparison to being a moonshiner’s shack some 40 years ago!

Tencennial: Go West Young Man!

With one vote for Frontierland, and one for Adventureland, I did what any Democratic person would do: flip a coin. So it’s off to Frontierland, with a nice view of the Columbia sailing on the Rivers of America. Next up is the very latest in ROA transportation: A raft on the left (to take you to Tom Sawyer’s Island) and a Keelboat. Right nearby, looking like it might collapse at any minute is Fowler’s Inn & Harbor, where the Columbia and Mark Twain get free parking.

Here’s a wider shot showing you how those newfangled rafts make their way to and from TSI:

Watch out! Here comes one of them Indian Canoes from the right!

And here comes the Mark Twain, sandwiched between Castle Rock & Cascade Peak:

Here are 2 more of Cascade Peak:

Tomorrow, we’ll spend another day in Frontierland with a few more views from September 1965.

Tencennial: Central Plaza & The Castle

In my excitement to post yesterday, I left out one of my favorite images: the Main Street Train Station with #4 pulling into the station (and Denny’s in the background—what a buzzkill!). To get down Main Street to see the rest of the park, let’s take the Omnibus.

And now the obligatory Sleeping Beauty’s Castle shots:

For tomorrow, how about a vote to see which hub we visit next? Exercise a little Democracy and leave a comment on the blog.

San Juan Capistrano Mission Pt. Trois

MORE pics from the famed Mission.

Disneyland Main Street Commissioned Painting 12

Doing shadows is not the most exciting thing. This is why landscapes, etc. take me so long; VERY easy to lose interest in the mundane.

Tencennial: The arrival

If you have no interest in The Tencenniel/1965 photos, you might want to avoid my blog for the next week or two. This series was taken in September 1965. Today is post one in the series, starting out with (what else?) Main Street. This look back towards the Train Station shows the Tencenniel signage/bunting on the Main Street gaslamps. Shot 2 is a little closer to the Train Station; always interesting to see the shops that are still there and the others that are gone.

#3 is the money shot that EVERYbody takes, a view towards the castle (get that Cast Member out of the street, willya'?!?). Included is a closeup of a Plaza Innn paper sign on the gaslamp: “A Victorian Restaurant in the Grand Manner.”

One more money shot (no cast members this time!) and a detail of the Tencenniel signage.
