The Dapper Jungle Cruise Skipper

This recently acquired vintage Disneyland image shows a cast member straddling the Jungle Cruise dock and the Ganges Gal boat. Very dapper looking, especially that watch! The back had “1955” handwritten on it. Not one to just trust handwriting vs. a slide date stamp, I looked at my Jungle Cruise collection to see if the cast member uniform matched the time period.



Not only did the uniform match another 1955 image in my collection, it matched the cast member!



It appears that the striped shirt only lasted the first year of this attraction’s operation, replaced by a floral/Hawaiian motif, as seen in the August 1956 shot below:

Vintage Jungle Cruise Overload

Apparently it has been a LOOOOOOONG time since I updated my Jungle Cruise pages, too. Reap the rewards today with an EXPLOSION of vintage Jungle Cruise images, starting with some nicely saturated Dock Shots! First one is from 1958 followed by this 1957 shot of some barrels and The Congo Queen:

MORE Gems from Disneyland August 1961

A few more from the August 1961 collection of vintage Disneyland images, starting off with a shot of the Fred Gurley. It's always fun to get a closer look at the cast members of yore.



Our 1961 photographer seemed to like Adventureland and the decor at the entrance.



I had to get a better look at the mask at the top of the entrance sign:



I am in Tiki heaven with this shot:



After admiring the tiki statue my eyes went right towards the signage:



Before moving on to other adventures, the photographer shot one more in this area:



This one was dubbed: "The Castle Fairyland." Well...close.



This double exposed shot is still lots of fun.



How about that TWA bag; wonder if she was a stewardess. Oh, excuse me...flight attendant.



From the Skyway bucket we have this view of Cinderella's Castle from the Storybook Land attraction:



A closer look at the village below:



This inscription on the slide has me intrigued: "Riverboat ride even served mint juleps on the ride." Anyone out there remember beverages being served aboard the Twain?
