I still like the spiffy red and white boats better than the "realistic" boats we have now... They seem happier, for some reason.
A nice collage of a trip through the jungle. It remains one of the 'classic' attractions of the park and continues to be popular. Overall, it looks better now than my spieling days in the 70s. KS
Could agree with you more @Stuart Powley. Not only were they happier... everyone got to sit on a real soft seat cushion.
Regarding the native village. Still love the ol' spiel, "The Natives appear to be celebrating the kill of that lion, probably caught making raids on their village. You know that lion is dead... they usually don't stand that way."

Dave, you and Major Pepperidge were on the same vibe, he recently posted an almost-identical shot of the sleeping lion and the celebrating natives.
I remember the first trip after the installation of the veldt scene. I was too small to remember JC without it, but recall my parents laughing so hard at the "new scene". It's just classic slapstick. Disney would be fools to change anything in this attraction.

I once was in the same JC boat as actress Zazu Pitts! That dates me, I know. I recognized her from the old Gale Storm TV show. But I digress --- kudos to Dave for his generous sharing of priceless memories. It's the next best thing to being in the park --- remembering how things used to be.
